Media Medium

This is going to be my dump of media thoughts whenever I have something finished instead of having them buried in the journal entries. Current watchlist is on the other page:Link to Log Currently moving various things to different pages so that this one covers shows rather than everything. Archived Version features stuff that is no longer extremely relevant.

I don't like the concept of uh, calling it consuming media. What would I call myself instead of a consumer (derogatory).

A media philogist? Instead of just one genre, they’re going out of their comfort bubble to experience the various pieces as recommended to them by vestiges of the internet! No, that sounds derogatory.

That’s not really me though, I just get bored and google “shows and movies to watch.” Or I ask friends. I intend to read more comics in order to not be like, the one guy who’s like “I have never interacted with a marvel thing outside of the MCU”. Spectacular Spider Man is pretty good.

October + November

I didn't watch much in October, so I'm keeping it light for November currently. And by not watching much, I meant I've just been watching like one thing, which has been transformers. The greatest evaluation anything can get is “my 11 year old self would’ve made this their personality for years on end” There is a large chance the entire media log for November will also largely just be transformers. I am not sorry for this in advance. Also I'm probably also archiving this media log as well like with the microblog b/c I think they're the laggiest pages on the site editor.
My media log thing is immensely scatterbrained. Years ago when I still used notion as my everything dashboard I had a huge watchlist of all the stuff I would watch ever but I don’t have it in me to have a backlog or bucket list anymore Maybe up next I’ll try reading a book again or something lol and update my library or something or move manga out even though I said I wouldn't for my library thing. Actual book. Not a pdf. I need to not have my entire life electronic like the entrietry of me getting sucked back onto Youtube in October.

We're at the halfway point of November so I'm posting things I have completed. I think anything after this point goes into the December latecomers section unless I pull off a marathon.

Transformers (g1, s1)

Why am I watching an 80s commercial for cool trucks
I got a linkin park AMV in my recommends and I was like “this looks tight as hell” and I saw a clip compilation of Starscream from various canons and I was like “what an interesting fellow, I would like to see more of him” so I started watching transformers. I mean, I’ve seen some transformers before, but never been like in depth. Current lineup for transformers stuff I’m watching is G1 + the movie, the Cartoon Network animated one, and prime.
Note: this was being written in between the time frame of the release of transformers One. Note: The lineup thing immediately went sideways during season 2. Maybe if there are more on streaming services that I have I will watch them as well but for now I’m mostly using the hasbro official YouTube spots.
Beast Wars seems like it’s fun but it’s also like idk what’s worth watching about it or not. I’ll consider the other ones later on. The TFwiki is also kind of hilarious because of the way it sounds like it was written by someone who only knows about transformers and questions every single thing that isn’t canonically in transformers itself. It’s great. Scattered notes in a way where it’s more general instead of like every episode, because that would be stupid, I’m not doing that anymore.
Gen 1 Season 1 The true watching experience is hopping onto the hasbro livestream, getting pissed off they keep airing the episode where the dinosaurs get tricked by Megatron to fighting Optimus, and then properly watching it in the order on the playlist but apparently that’s not even the right order either since it’s not the production order. Thank goodness it’s episodic because I’m just using the playlist for the experience of what it’s like to watch a show on demand without all the episodes.
I like how for the first episode before they land on earth they all had their like non car forms. Where does the trailer come from though.
The gen 1 show is very blatantly a cartoon commercial in which it’s very clear they were like “what do boys like, dinosaurs” so they’d just add in dinosaur robots for an episode. They’re mainstays and they’re stupid because they were made with the intellect of actual dinosuars. I love them. It truly encapsulates the feeling of a kid playing with his toys. Like they’ll just be giving characters new superpowers because one time OP just had laser eyes. Never again.
It’s also an 80s cartoon in terms of random animation quirks too which I learned is like a multiversal canonical singularity explained in the comics or something??? Theres human characters but i think in terms from my scale of obtrusive human characters so far they rate pretty low, this one’s mostly on the transformers fighting except when it’s not. Like theyre not Chris thorndykes or various movie human centric dramas that might have the title character in it too sometimes (so basically the opposite of the bay movies). It’s kinda interesting how the civilians have no clue what’s going on usually because there was an emphasis on the fact they’re robots in disguise. Literally the only reason spike is even there is because his dad was like “we know more about earth than you do because we live here”. The decepticons will be calling humans flesh creatures and everyone just has to live with that. Why is Dr. Wily here. They just had a mob of people try to attack but like none of their attacks work I think it’s akin to like a bug. In the first episode megatron picks up a pipe and throws it at the humans.
The transformers can just do whatever they want sometimes. They can also just like. Fly. Without having to turn into vehicles. I love when you watch an early installment of a franchise before things get established so like nothing has been set in stone like the way gen 1 pokemon was where every writer could make things up. Rumble was the size of a human man in episode 1 but their sizes fluctuate depending on the writing/artist anyways.
I’ve mostly been watching the season 1 livestream through hasbro pulse’s YouTube minus when I’m not. There was a clear philosophy in that the “good” transformers were all convenient vehicles like trucks and hospital vehicles and cars and meanwhile the “bad” ones were mostly weapons and war machines and meanwhile Megatron was an actual gun. Minus the guy who’s a camera and Soundwave being a cassette player.
Megatron needing to be wielded by someone else is also driving me nuts. Literally putting his life into another’s hands to be shot… like putting yourself into the hands of the robot who is going to betray you or at least try to is kinda crazy. The fact that it’s an actual war is like, since they’re robots, there can be more easily justified violence but like most of the time I used to think “wow cool robot” no they are in a civil war. But also sometimes the decepticons are incredibly incompetent as extremely petty and it depends on the episode as to how badly everyone gets owned like the episode where Megatron got thrown off an pyramid and immediately called for a retreat like on some team rocket timing.
Are the insecticons even evil, they’re just hungry or something. They’re like bugs. They’ve got a little echo effect. I don’t remember every single guy from the cast so all of them being called sometimes helps. They gave that bug lightning powers.
Optimus Prime in my mind I thought of mostly being a nicer calmer leader guy but in Season 1 he’s calling Megatron trash and stuff. I guess they didn’t really have his character fully written down yet. It’s real hard for like notes when the good guys are just like nice but kind of snarky and like perfectly fine but then the villains are all just weirdos in their own right and could carry a show in their perspective alone. I like how they keep going “yay we got rid of megatron” but he just keeps coming back like this happens multiple times he keeps going “I will be avenged”. He’s not dead yet though. Megatron trapped the autobots in quicksand one time. Plus the decepticons have robots that combined to make a bigger robot. That’s rad. And they’re green and purple, some of my favorite colors. That rules, their debut episode was fighting the dinobots. Megatron tried to cheat in the same episode too and Starscream tried raising up the legality of the dual and Megatron went IDGAF right until it blew up in his face and he fell in the lava and did his usual. I don’t think lava would kill him.
The good guys are nice but like they kind of all fill out tropes of like, the medics, the kid character, and the human stand ins, and some guys. They really do just have some guys on the team who I have to hear their names multiple times to remember like who is Prowl. That’s just some white car guy when they have like 4 other guys that are white cars. Like Ratchet has the exact same head type. (Is there a robot named Clank…)They got recolors on the team and sometimes they recolor the other guys that look alike. Sometimes they just stand in the background and say things to remind you they’re there. I’ll literally just say “who is THAT guy”. There’s just a red Bumblebee. There’s actually two of them, red bumblebee and his brother, tall bumblebee. Big Red. Same with the decepticons, they’ve got some recolors like the Starscream’s. They’re made to sell money. Who was that purple guy in episode 2 who was a camera. There’s definitely some glups in the cartoon. There’s an invisible guy. I mean, there are comics to read through so maybe there’s less glup energy. There’s some guy who speaks in rhymes. They gotta have their little quirks and powers and things. They are nice, but, I need more episodes with them individually versus in a group because I’m not remembering all of them. I have said multiple times now “who is that I have never seen or heard you before.” Minus the dinobots because they’re literally just dinosaur brained. I mean it would be weirder if the T-Rex could articulate in full sentences I think.
I’m like 50% sure chip and spike have the same VA they were working those guys in the studio overlap because the same guys are in GI Joe like it must’ve been like back to back recording sessions or something crazy.
Thinking about it, the whole thing about the villains stealing energy is yet another 80s cartoon with an environmentalist message, huh… they’re just doing whatever they want tbh. The plots are whatever, the writing might as well have spawned into existence. Same with the stereotypes for humans. They’re really something sometimes. Why are there so many various gems of power. Like they’ve got the 80s sci-fi terms of logic circuits and battle computers and what not.
Season 1 is the shortest since it’s only 16 episodes which I guess is why it’s the only one that gets livestream privilege (note: This was written before they moved onto season 2 on the livestream). But on hasbro’s other channels they’ve got the other ones too.
There’s animation errors but like that’s kind of part of some of the charm. Like the recolors keep swapping. Sometimes they launch at comedy speed. The stock sounds kill me a bit. The random moments of competent animation where there’s almost high quality or sakuga is insane because I have to rewind and go “wow” because they’ll come out of nowhere.
The episodes being out of order by broadcast and not production is a bit bothersome because the ultimate doom is clearly more of a season finale than the insecticon introduction since it is like a big battle and Megatron brings Cybertron to Earth. If Hasbro was really cooking they’d make the commercials actually happen when the logo says “the transformers will return right after these messages.”
Current favorites: Soundwave, Starscream, Megatron, Grimlock, Jetfire
The Section on the Decepticons
The entire reason I even began watching transformers was because I saw a clip compilation of starscream from different iterations and I was like “what an interesting character.” Saying it like, with the intent to put him under a microscope. I want to put him in a little maze and watch him run around. He’s 25 years old. I’m not joking, thats in his casting bio. In the pilot episodes megatron was like “if you get rid of me there will always be someone trying to get rid of you” which makes sense I guess. Megatron’s a questionable guy in terms of like, his leadership, but he’s pretty entertaining sometimes like how in episode 2 he was cackling while flying with his mace helicopter. Villains do end up usually getting the more interesting things going on like Soundwave having multiple guys as cassettes and Starscream’s recolors being a part of a group with their own powers versus the autobots where I end up going… “that guy’s power is… digging?” . Megatron’s mad smart for manipulating the dinosaurs in that one episode with his like might makes right mentality. Megatron has the plans but the thing I feel like Starscream is impulsive and if he was given a chance to, he would just stab someone. I’m a big fan of this horrible guy who tried immediately blowing up the Earth when he thought Megatron was dead. Heavy Metal War is the epitome of “dang, the decepticons have really cool skill sets.”
Transformers prime is rather interesting in terms of the way that starscream looks like completely different if you take a glance at his gen 1 iteration but they still match up somewhat in terms of mannerisms in like the fact they’re consistently like, scheming and tricking and whatnot. That reflects on prime/aligned being like. Thin as hell in reference to the like… ambigious trickster archetype . Dude’s the smallest guy normally in a scene but he’s also like incredibly sharp, he has claw hands. Both are seeking power but do it in ways that reflect similarly but not exactly??? Fascinating how different takes on a character lead to different results that can still translate as like, the same. I watched less clips of Animated so I have less to say on that guy. So naturally to “get” starscream, I went back to his gen 1 edition.
I have learned of Armada somewhat being like the most different take of Starscream in that he’s like this duty bound honorable warrior who breaks out of Megatron’s violence and becomes his own robot who works with the autobots after questioning Megatron’s capacity as a leader and ultimately he sacrifices himself and he is the big hero or something. That’s very interesting, so maybe I’ll add Armada to the watch list. The thing I’m thinking is there’s already a robot who matches that profile description of questioning the decepticons, his name is Thundercracker. But to be honest I’m not sure if the Armada one fits what I’m currently envisioning, I want him (Starscream) to be worse and do crime. There are like multiple starscream recolors and I’m starting to be able to recognize them by name and association. I’m cooked.
The episode I saw where Starscream rescues his one friend who was trapped in an iceberg is kind of a lot of depth for him in my mind because most of what I saw of him in clips he was always getting like insulted or like being like “I’m gonna be the leader! me!” Like the constant schemer villain of a movie who’d get killed in the final act but instead he’s always getting owned for his ego. I like Starscream because he is a hater but like that episode is also driving me nuts because like there was a Starscream that like had a friend and was a normal scientist guy on Cybertron and that friend Skyfire/Jetfire represented the old life before the war and Starscream was nicer to him and being like “you’ll be my second in command” that it’s making my brain grind like “rrrrgghhhhhhh” we love to see complexities . Skyfire and Starscream are the funniest concept of like Skyfire was so like large that none of the autobots attacks even like remotely phased him and like he was entombed in the ice and then immediately bailed and took off his decepticon brand like it was nothing and then for the rest of the show Skyfire was mostly just the guy carrying the others around. Starscream fumbled so bad.
We don’t get to see much of Jetfire/Skyfire after because copyright issues from macros/harmony gold pretty much made him a side character which is also why he has two names. Like they for real tried to kill Skyfire within his debut episode and then he just pops back up again. Missed opportunity. Also the messed up order does make this kind of hilarious because like now in the order that it's in Starscream was going to blow up the Earth before he knew his old friend was actually still alive on it. It was a bit silly in his return episode that it was kind of nonchalant of “oh yeah, we forgot about that guy, we thought he died.” Then he spends the rest of the show as the autobot taxi.
How did Starscream’s life before the war end up with him the way he is now, what made him the chronic betrayer that he is. How did he claw up to the ranks in the decepticons in canon aside from “well, he just is”. Obviously the answer was “this is a kids cartoon and we need to make it so that the villain isn’t just like the big evil guy we need comic relief” but like Starscream is in this cycle of constantly wanting to one up Megatron just because he thinks he would be the better leader. And like no one is actively questioning megatron’s plans as much and simultaneously there is no good explanation to why Megatron keeps him around??? I swear that Megatron is like the king and to him starscream is the court jester who is also simultaneously his evil advisor wizard who will try consistently poisoning him with every meal but like, Megatron has immunity to the poison. I By the way, the court jester is the only one allowed to humiliate the king freely without punishment. Obviously that is not the case for Starscream as he deals with cartoon violence. I love him, he sucks. He gets called geeky.
The thing is like, everyone in the decepticons is more or less like in it for themselves and actively working against Megatron or too incompetent to set off on their own because even Shockwave in his g1 bio says that he’d take the role from Megatron which he does! Multiple comic continuities have that happen apparently. I like Soundwave as well but there is less to say about him unlike Starscream because Soundwave is the robot that gets things done for Megatron efficiently and he has a cool voice mod and he shoots out cassette tapes that turn into little decepticons and he is just a cool guy. Soundwave is carrying the group project as well. I don’t think Starscream would even be a good leader, he just wants the power and attention that he’d get from being the leader but also it’s kind of funny how in early season 1 Megatron got sent on the space bridge and everyone literally did follow Starscream with zero hesitation (granted season 1 was like. Not established.) Incredibly disorganized military group aside from when they lock in. The insecticons literally betrayed the group within their debut episode...episode. They trash talk each other as they do jumpings.
Favorite Episodes (Season 1 Lineup): Divide and Conquer SOS Dinobots Ultimate Doom (all parts) Fire in the Sky Heavy Metal War Fire on the Mountain Plague of Insecticons That's basically like the entire season pretty much. It is the shortest one...

Voltron: Legendary Defender (s1-2)

I need to get a t-shirt or button that says “I was on tumblr during the Voltron release” and have never stepped foot into the discourse and as far as I know maybe it was like a mass hallucination or something. I’ve only seen the 80s show through exposure with my dad, I have never seen anything fanart wise of the robot. As a big robot fan, I feel that is dire and sort of a dangerous warning.
Pidge reminds me of tails. I like Pidge. Is this gonna be like surf Dracula where I gotta spend like a whole season before I see him get the board (the team in the robot) Who is Shiro to Keith intergenerational friendship/co-workers is the vibe I’m getting
It’s nice that they’re all wearing color coordinated clothes so you can tell who’s what color lion …that’s what Voltron looks like here? Fantasy alien elves! The mice! From the first show! What are my thoughts on the new Voltron design It looks like a transformer could snap it like a twig
How do the aliens know English They made 8 seasons in 2 years… Voltron incident. So if Pidge was disguised how come no one recognized her as looking as a dead ringer for the missing brother I don’t think the show is going to answer those questions, this is about alien robot wars.
I like them comparing earth time to alien time, that was a nice scene. Most of lance is him being a chaser so far or just beefing with Keith for no reason I think Keith is his rival type Can’t really tell the leader yet… I think fundamentally to have a good mecha you need to have good hype music to back up the fight scenes and like how am I supposed to be hyped when the robot shows up if the soundtrack is mostly just a dinky little orchestra electronic thing the entire show Switch up the genre, give me some jazz or someting I wanna feel like this is sick as hell and like it could be, but the soundtrack isn’t pulling it’s weight Why is it so quiet Dang, allura’s life sucks. She has to kill her AI dad. Her entire race is gone. Lance keeps flirting with her. Voltron LD doesn’t even have a kickass vocal intro theme song It’s instrumental and pivotal to have a vocal insert song I’ve spent more time with them out of the robot than in it As a character driven space show about alien fights it’s alright I guess but as a big robot show this is dire. If your show is advertised as a big robot show I better see the robot!! The epitome of surf Dracula
Season 2
How much of hunk’s jokes revolve around throwing up and eating and being afraid I get itttttt You know a character who was a big guy who wasn’t just a food guy Benkei from Beyblade Metal Saga who then became a resturaunt owner in the sequel after metal fury I haven’t watched beyblade in years so who knows if he was good or not thinking about it Big guys do end up falling into two tropes of being either the food guy or the big bully type
I like everyone aside from Lance currently because Lance feels like the writers were trying to make a Sokka but didn’t understand that fundamentally the thing of Sokka is that he learns to respect women and he has a character to bounce off of in both ways of both validating and invalidating him when he does something dumb or smart (Katara, Aang) but the thing is currently in Voltron no one likes or respects lance and he has like negative rizz but I guess that is what character development is for You know, a lot of alien shows really need to commit to it… I think a show about a Voltron tourist would work pretty well but we gotta deal with the cosmic war or whatever but then I feel like we’d probably also be dealing with more space racism, as is the usual when there are space shows
Considering that every “season” is 13 episodes I’m gonna just go with treating the seasons as if they are one long season Having 13 episodes for a single season I feel is starting to become detrimental in terms of pacing for shows like these. Two bros 6 feet apart in a pool chilling The big alien spaceship doesn’t have stairs? What was the point of being in space if there’s just a regular space mall When do they get back to earth I think a big issue with a show/movie/book/anything is when you end up going “damn… i kinda don’t care.” So far, I only care about four characters out of an 8 man cast. (Allura, Shiro, Pidge, Hunk).
Cow. Keith’s interesting enough since he’s a Galra now. They gotta have some kind of glossary for these new words or something I feel a bit lost It is a good character driven show, I can say that much, but the soundtrack is really not helping me because I’m zoning out more than I probably should be This had 8 seasons but season 2 already feels like a whole finale to itself How much am I going to watch a decline in real time Well, I’ve got a few weeks to find out.

Naruto (again)

Actually Finishing Naruto Pt 1 in spite of saying the last one was me finishing it. Gaara literally just cleared that guy in a single hit with a sand spear I like the energy of “Naruto’s finally going to train with Jirarya! Everything else was just an off screen adventure!” I also watched some of the movies and they were basically “hey can we copy your homework from the filler episodes or something, no one will notice” The last ending foreshadows Naruto’s new fit for Shippuden I’ll be honest, I watched multiple seasons of filler and I don’t remember a thing aside from like, the ramen competition, the mermaid, the mail carrier guy, and the fake grandson thing. Maybe more. Idk.
Part 1 was good I guess. I feel like there's ideas here, but the fact that they aren't followed up probably feels like a waste for non filler people. They’ve got all this crazy stuff and spells but like, what if there was a cowboy. It’s kinda funny how like all of the filler is usually “we’re a village in a land you’ve never heard of doing incredible techniques and we think your village sucks and your ninja techniques are lame and you will never hear of us again.” Alternately “orichimaru might be involved, JK, it was just some other guy” There’s probably someone out there who has rewritten all of Naruto with all of the villages. Like a mad person. Toph and Gaara would probably be a good crossover fight Sand. They keep having a lesson of “being a ninja means being a tool and you should be human” and like these 12 year olds sure are philosophical. Sakura’s healing powers are kind of terrifying, she can kind of do necromancy. Naruto’s ambition is kinda great, because like, he wants to be the president. Hinata wants to join him. The talent thing is the dumbest argument I’ve ever heard. Did a YouTuber really plague Naruto discourse that badly. I’m not starting Shippuden right now, give me til next year, it’ll probably TAKE me a year to finish it anyways with how much filler I’ve heard is in it.

Korra S3+ 4

Well, I finished up korra Korra S3
I feel like a lot of korra season 2’s ending was like “hmm, I don’t think connecting the modern human world and the wild spirit world was a good idea” and the spirit world feels like less chaotic nature and more of like black and white viewpoint of “that’s bad and that’s good and that’s HIM, that’s the BAD SPIRIT KILL HIM” and like how is the big owl and the face stealing guy supposed to live within the human world and uhhh they are not going to address that, huh. There was definitely a philosophical change and/or writing decision made to make the spirit world less of a violent thing of natural chaos because nature cannot be defined as good or evil, it just exists. Also Iroh’s chilling there. I kind of imagine the worst case scenarios because so far there have been fumbles.
Now people are getting powers who didn’t have powers before and there is chaos in the city and also an assassin or something because criminals are gaining superpowers Bro you can’t rebuild the air nation just because people got air bending powers through sheer randomness It’s like the Jedi code Korra attempts to get a guy through the power of “nuh uh”
There is a government conspiracy Where are this child’s parents That’s not Zuko’s voice actor Who is that
I like when they revisit old places and they look different Like ba sing she has grass now But they turned the lower ring into the plates from Midgar Bolin and Mako met their uncle! That’s nice. Wait, there’s Zuko’s VA right there. Actually there’s a huge extended family! Korra’s tone is all over the place sometimes with a lack of subletly and it’s like there’s a lot of over explaining sometimes and the dialogue revolving around like fart jokes literally happening after a guy fell off a bridge Like the feelings are “there” but it feels more like they put a thing there of like a cue to be like “be sad” I know the grandma never met the mom, but she didn’t have to say that, she could’ve just said the thing about Bolin having his mom’s eyes And that the characters feel like too naive to be falling for some things that feel like blatant traps The romance is also like whack, same with the family drama There feels like a writer wanting to make things be extremely serious and it gets undercut by a writer who keeps making jokes so I can never tell what to get from this
I’m not really liking much of this show past season 1. Then again sometimes I feel like things are unintentionally funny because of like woah, there’s a guy with super powers heading towards them but also he is standing on top of a guy’s car Sometimes it feels like the bending fights get like extreme high budget that makes the rest of the show look stilted in comparison I feel like all of the villains having like all of the powers of the various guys aang fought should be an interesting thing on paper but in the world of nostalgia pandering I’m here like “oh boy, how’s this gonna play out”
Would I be less harsh on Korra’s inconsistent tone if it didn’t try for these more mature themes while still constrained by being a children’s network and then sometimes undermining things with jokes Yeah, probably.
After the last airbender live action Netflix thing though it could be worse Okay so a splinter group of the white lotus doesn’t sound very good Let Bolin make friends with the bad guys I like him. I feel like he’s trying his best. He feels like a light in this story.
I feel like if season 3 held the same amount of seriousness it held in the episode with the temple under fire it would’ve been Too much but escalation goes way too fast… I feel like manipulating the spirit world should’ve been like a series finale sort of thing instead of season 2 The order feels a bit backwards. If season 4 tries to go back to comedy out of this I don’t think this is gonna work. There’s a scene during one of the episodes where korra’s dad lands and I’m not sure why it looks like one of those like 4k edits you’d see on a YouTube video where everything’s in slow mo for a fancam It was a bit out of place.
Yo, bro activated creative mode He’s buddha maxxing Do not say that He said he abandoned his earthly desires What if Korra was chained and poisoned by the red lotus is literally happening right now
She didn’t deserve this, she just wanted to have adventures in the city and be a sports girl and now I’m watching her be tortured
Current Full Series Thoughts Comparing this to season 1 is something else man. I feel like the show is trying to have too many different conflicts when something like Amon could’ve been a full antagonist of like “how do benders feel about this” The escalation is kind of like fighting a guy who can steal powers to literal god to some guys is not the way it should go, I think? It feels like the writers didn’t have a cohesive narrative in mind and just went with a cool idea that was out of order.
I don’t know how to describe it in a useful way. I think there could’ve been more emphasis on like, a clash of modernity with the ancient ways of the avatar which I think is what season 3 was going for but it’s kind of like the ideas are there on paper, but in execution, it just feels like it’s not sticking. I feel the same about the romance in this show which is completely awkward nearly every time it’s attempted because the writers don’t know who to pair korra with and they keep introducing new characters for the brothers who I feel like are the ones I’m enjoying the most potential because they’re like, the noir detective and the unintentional movie star who could both offer an interesting thing about republic city since they lived there the longest and had gang connections if the seasons didn’t immediately move onto exploring all of the world again. I’m more interested in the supporting cast than the main character and it’s not Korra’s fault, it’s just the writers deciding that for some reason she has to continuously fail and suffer and go on a downspiral.
Korra is kind of reminding me a bit of RWBY in that there was a singular location (beacon) that could’ve been explored more in depth with an antagonist that was established before the bigger bad (It’s kind of a mix because RWBY had a lot of villains before Salem was shown as the biggest bad) and all of this stuff maybe could’ve happened in republic city because I feel like it’s supposed to be analogous to New York City, right? (I’m thinking of the rogue gallery of like superhero comics) I feel like Korra season 1 is a significantly different show from the rest of the seasons after because the problem was smaller scaled. This is a sequel thing I’ve noticed where it’s like to say the sequel is more serious than the earlier show they raise the stakes up higher. I feel like all these later seasons are converging on trying to use korra for nefarious purposes by exploiting her avatar powers. It also doesn’t help that there’s like no time to fully explore the ideas introduced within a season because every season is only 13 episodes. There’s a good setup but not enough time so it’s like “wow, cool idea, I can’t wait to see how this plays out—oh, it’s already over.”
You ever think whoever’s next on the reincarnation cycle is gonna be like “hey where’s all the other guys in the cycle” and then korra just has to shrug and be like “I don’t know how to tell you bro….”
I like the show so far but it just feels like there was missed opportunities because of how condensed the seasons have to be.

Season 4
She’s been gone for 3 years?! They’ve modernized the airbenders now I think this kuvira lady is getting the bandits to attack the states so the earth kingdom is united Again, could this have been an entire series in itself of like an earth avatar being born into like fallen royalty
Korra is having the worst time of her life The cracked mirror, the mirror matches, she has been forgotten This is miserable They gave her trauma The letters are piling up Cartoons will give out a full scene of trauma and the frustration of recovery and then immediately undercut it with a fart joke but thankfully they didn’t do that This is hard to sit through
Find meaning in suffering or something Ah hell nah, Korra’s in the white fog and she has to deal with a manifestation of her inner self
Toph has just been chilling in a swamp The world has kind of moved on from the avatar and I think that’s a major conflict from korra This guy is like just the puppet king now There’s nothing for him because the kingdom has been overtaken by the army woman who I feel like since no one else is introduced either korra is facing herself as the final boss or the army woman If this little prince guy actually gains character development and becomes a good guy then maybe it’ll work
Korra was still poisoned the whole time Literally my point just happened because Korra had an entire nightmare sequence and then I saw that little guy puke She has PTSD.
Okay they did pull a funny joke with Ikki being tied up and then she immediately pulled her arms out of the ropes so she could use the map Kuvira is doing a forced hostile takeover because the monarchy sucked which was true in Korra because they were hoarding the wealth and letting the rings suffer but she’s being too hostile about it and I’m wondering if she funded the bandits
Varrick is literally funding like the propoganda and evils for profit and he rescued the assistant girl and he’s gaining a conscious and I can’t tell if this guy is being set up to be killed or not Bollin get out of there they’re exploiting you Kuvira is speedrunning oppression I think another one of the writers worked on the dragon prince so I guess I’m watching that next
CGI robots. Varrick made a BOMB. Sometimes the random foot soldiers will be taking down entire groups of benders What is with the grandma’s complete adoration of the queen It’s a running gag. The season’s pacing is all over the place like why is Mako having a clip show of his romance failures You’re telling me there was enough time to dedicate an entire episode of Mako’s fumbling with commentary by a peanut squad and a bunch of speech bubbles
Whyyyyyyyyyy They had a full episode of various clips and — Wait let Varrick cook The villains are having a 4 way phone call Who gave Raava the phone The show is attempting to convince me that opening the spirit world was a good thing and I’m still not buying it There’s a reason they were separated
Zhu Li’s been sabotaging the weapon Kuvira’s got a big robot now with an arm cannon That’s the final boss? To be fair, it is a pretty big robot….
I think that an interesting conflict would be like using the spirit tree exploration as a boss for an earlier Eason that then leads to vacation being released because of the world being destabilized by people attempting to exploit the spirit world
In my mind, the avatar order would be like this Season 1, season 4’s conflict, season 3, season 2 I feel like killing the dark avatar isn’t something that should be done in the second season
Kinda mixed on season 2 and 3’s order but i think having the spirit world unleashed needs to be more established and more of a conflict and idk I didn’t think it was handled properly I’ll be honest, I respect the little prince guy, he might be like the leader they didn’t want but i respect him for sticking to his guns even if his singing sucks. Bro is installing a democracy “We’re popping the biggest bottles when…” words uttered before disaster.
Korra final thoughts
Well, I think this show would’ve benefited from every season not being short but considering this was a show from like 2012 the nick executives probably sabotaged it the entire time so let me get that out of the way in terms of speculative critique. Okay, I think season 1 is still like, good, but every other season after it suffered from not following up on season 1’s bender and non bending conflict and hopping straight to global scale threats again. So more or less I’m already imagining a different show in my head, and this gets doubled down when the spirit world is treated like a good thing of the world that must happen and then everything goes wrong throughout all the seasons when the spirit world is opened. Too many bathroom jokes. I know kids find them funny, but I don’t anymore. Sometimes they handle the topics well. Like the part with korra’s trauma? That was handled pretty well. The romantic involvement was kind of lame and I’m not against the characters involved but like the whole “he cheated and she cheated and they’re back again and uhh nvm” and I’m like “never let these writers do this for more than a season.” I’m glad Korra figured out who she wanted to be with in the end. The show could be a lot better if they didn’t have all of these ideas executed season by season and instead stuck to one overarching thing but like, I guess the writers really wanted all of their ideas to get across but there wasn’t enough time because 13 episodes is a mini series and 26 episodes is a regular season’s worth. So it’s kind of like if I gave it a rating it’d be like a 6/10. Watchable enough if you’re bored but easy to pick apart.

Glitch Techs works (MD, TADC)

Murder drones 4-8 (complete) Last time I watched murder drones: there’s an illusion robot doing things and uh, the drones can murder for real
N is such a goofy you forget he’s a killer robot vampire They are investigating the secret vault
The awkward pausing, the humor that’s not really humor, this is a show about teenage robots. I like how since they’re robots the sense of danger is nonexistent and they’re just nonchalant about dying sometimes. The one blonde drone is always like “I don’t care” Uzi has like the special power for some reason, maybe because of her mom, but I think it’s making her evil Also her mom can draw a cool S and maybe that will become plot relevant
One girl’s reading book called final girl survival guide like they know tropes They don’t even acknowledge the murders The entire show is built on this premise of teenage robot drama and also occasionally murder I like how N is the guy who ignores all of the red flags ever and has self preservation skills 100%
The humans are just shadow figures to not model them lol The visuals are nice but idk the plot aside from horror and kill
Uzi and N’s character dynamic is clown to clown communication. Most compelling relationship I’ve seen this year.
What was the end of murder drones Well uh they murdered and stuff and there was a thing that wanted to kill everyone so Uzi stopped it The fight scenes were good This sounds like a child wrote it notes wise Idk man there were a lot of things happening
Amazing digital circus (1-3) Rewatched Episode 1 to refresh
Well pomni is trapped in the circus, if they freak out too much they get abstracted, i forever associate the lemotif with that one scene of Choso from JJK, uhhhh, I started from episode 1 and like it kinda sucks to be trapped in the digital 3D cgi 90s dimension
At least it’s not purgatory I guess The amazing circus is all ages but I saw it labeled as pg on Netflix Also how is it on netflix
Pomni is the new sad pitiable character after N was finished up but now as the protagonist Will she escape? Probably not. Will she abstract? Nah. What is Jax. He’s annoying. I don’t like him. Is he an NPC or something, why does he have keys and talk to the audience There are so many doors crossed out with an X already, how many have abstracted 1 view! The commercials keep getting more deranged They gave that chess guy a shotgun
Let’s go Larping! Why does that one crocodile do the PT taunts So all these guys in this world are NPCs I guess Since all the other guys in the world who are alive are in the circus and Caine has to not have NPCs around Sucks if the NPCs get aware too Can they also abstract?
They’re in the test world The amazing existential crisis Pomni theory: maybe she was a game tester or dev since she knew about collision
Caine called himself a war criminal??? You’re telling me if they say Caine’s bad at his job then they all get screwed
Damn they weren’t kidding That was a creature
Why was this horrible hellscape adventure programmed into the thing He misses his wife… man. I think Jax should get more increasingly annoyed that everyone keeps changing things to be nicer I want him to do a crime

Voltron, Legendary Defender (Seasons 3 to 6) Hard to believe that this is the last thing for thing of the year that isn't just stuff from December... Interpersonal alien political drama We need to find Voltron, the show, the movie

Keith is really mad Shiro is missing Where’d he go Lotor Slander is happening immediately Lotor looking like a pretty boy when comparing him to his other galra buddies is going to go two ways: he either becomes a good guy or he doubles down on being evil Considering that he was in the arena when he was being slandered and then beat up the guy with like an attitude it feels vaguely ambiguous at the moment

I recognize tropes Where was this guy when his dad was doing all that though Wilhelm scream heard So like does Keith’s outfit become black to match the lion or If all the lions have bonds or something shouldn’t there be more gravitas to taking the lions to swap Allura is here like “you’re like my dad because you’re humble” and now the BLUE guy has the RED lion Please swap colors this is bothering me way too much Lance is truly the butt of the show, like why is there a scene where Allura is like “I followed your lead” and then the rest of the team dogpiles on calling him stupid

Alternate universe Shiro? Alternate universe Altea is evil, maybe they’re the new major antagonist of the season and Oh, They’re gone already? I seem to be having bad luck whenever I get to these shows made for streaming having ideas that don’t really get followed up on. Shiro’s back, but this might be the clone, I remember hearing that might’ve been a thing I’m thinking that the alternate Altea empire thing would’ve been way more interesting than whatever the prince is doing The past Voltron sounds far more interesting than the main plot Voltron of like the power of the corruption of the quintessence and the alien people getting to team up

The galra civil war The CGI robot is fine, the music is alright, the show’s just moving in a direction of unexpectedness? Keith drama. Bro says “I’m not ready to pilot the black lion” while he is wearing black Voltron is doing a show don’t tell thing where it’s like “we’re family now” even though they were berating him like a few minutes earlier Voltron needs crowdfunding to defeat the empire

Pidge episode Wait hold on Are you telling me that later seasons have even LESS episodes So is like every season gonna be focused on a single character, like this season is on Pidge Dang, Pidge’s brother really did a fakeout like that They still have the cow! The cow is becoming one of my favorite things to see solely because in a world of aliens and technobabble there is a cow. They made milkshakes from it.

Lance is a dragon quest player He does not need to be pressing the buttons that hard Coran took a worm pill Somehow the plan worked in spite of that The vibe I’ve been getting is found family. Like this is more of a group of friends learning to work together with their magic lions.

Lotor you are flying like Icarus and the show feels like intentionally throwing red flags with the music cues Manipulating Voltron isn’t making you look good in terms of mortal ambiguity. Is this one of those things where people saw a pretty guy and thought “oh, he’s gonna be a good guy now” Doesn’t help that Voltron has one of the avatar writers I think most people expect a Zuko out of shows instead of just being like “oh, pretty guy who’s evil” and just accepting that the evil guy will be evil. What I’m saying is like, idk, if a show like DBZ was made now and got a different audience, Vegeta fans would be getting callout posts. They’d also put him on fraud watch. What am I even saying. Vegeta gets put on fraud watch even now.

It was a hologram You know, it kind of feels like the Shiro clone subplot isn’t being foreshadowed that much since we only had like actual Shiro for like a season before he left the plot but I just realized that Kuron’s name is like that because you know. Black and White. The most we get is glimpses. I think there was a subplot in OG Voltron about a character dying but since there was fan backlash in the OG show that Voltron originated from (GoLion) they just added in a character they said was that guy’s twin but in the English version they just said it was the same guy. There is a character who looks like a Grundo or mayhaps Dr. Slug. My neopets. Lotor seems to be like he’s not going to be evil or maybe he is just seeking the throne I can’t really get a good reading on that guy but it seems like he’s doing this to benefit the empire but like his vision The flame thing is supposed to be good, but the music makes it sound like, sinister. And the smoke behind Lotor and Voltron standing like a big weapon

Is this the first time Lance has mentioned like that he has a large extended family Currently, out of the characters, I feel like Allura and Pidge have had the most development and the closest thing that would represent a character arc that I like, which is making me worried because Pidge’s arc is pretty much finished which makes me worry for what they’re going to do with her character next. Immediately assigned to comic relief goofs with Hunk and Lance

Is that Keith’s mom Quintenessence is not a good thing It’s like an allegory The life force is not good in excess

There is now a white lion See now im here like “okay Lotor chose violence but Allura didn’t” so check another one off for the ambigious flag Theres like zero transition from season to season which is making me think if the show was just produced in big batches that were all one big season and then just split into smaller pieces Hunk is getting an arc about learning about the Galra now I think?

In an alternate world Keith’s name was Yorak. Lance is Cuban? Voltron the franchise is fascinating because it was originally two Japanese shows glued together or something and one of them wasn’t even meant to be the show being sent (GoLion versus Daltanious and Dairugger) and the American only things basically take plot points from the other shows whenever they’re making their own remakes and adaptions It’s basically just power rangers and sentai’s relationship where the footage from one show was used to make the newer show

They’re playing Space DND How is it that the episodes that would be considered as filler in any other show are the most fun I’ve had in a while Like the one with Coran making them do space plays Because character dynamics are fun when the characters aren’t dealing with constant plot progression and interpersonal drama, sometimes it’s fun to just see them be doing goofy scenarios Is that the adventure quest health bar

You’re telling me the clone was lucid enough to play DND with them Me looking too deep into it: the clone wants to be a paladin in DND because that’s all he knows Lance is a ninja fox He’s having way too much fun with the smoke bombs Fantasy Voltron’s way more brightly colorful than regular Voltron Nahhhh, not Shiro’s twin brother Gyro finishing the DND game Why is the interface hud WOW now This was an episode clearly made by gamers Another factor I’m not thinking about: this was a Netflix production, meaning that episodes were planned ahead of time or not but they were released in large batches, so seasons dropped as is instead of being an episode by episode basis The way shows are watched now are in a few sittings of a season versus a single episode. So then a lot of the season by season time period was a lot of speculation as to what happened next. Watching the show as is gives me an entirely different experience then watching the show as it released. Why does Keith have a wolf now and a new girl and his mom is also there

So Lotor has now seemingly stalked and tracked down the Altean people so he could run tests with them and a list of names A list of names on a gravestone Basically the plot of the giver This single episode has made him become the sus master. But if you think about how seasons were released in pieces then you get a story of the morally ambigious Lotor all of a sudden turning into a guy obsessed with the quintessence but not even for a reason like his parents were but just for power or something and its more or less like Keith’s offscreen adventure to show them that Lotor’s a bad guy now Well the clone thing is pretty dumb though Because that means majority of the show was spent with a guy who for all intents was Shiro and then had an immediate violent ego death later on

everyone out there probably having nightmares for days about all this That laser arm has given nothing but trouble in this show Shiro is like Keith’s brother and his dad So an uncle Yeah Like the black lion had red wings to represent their friendship symbolically It is not that deep Yeah, true.

I like how Lotor’s groupies are like “man yaps too much” Lotor does not like being compared to his dad and man just lost it So yeah, I can see how after dealing with seasons of him being like the morally ambigious guy now he’s like “im gonna kill everyone” I can see how there would probably be like, an energy of “that was not well foreshadowed” Ah yes, subverted expectations (TM) That’s crazy Bro pulled up with his own Voltron

The pacing of this show had like no breathing room whatsoever because why are the number of episodes reduced until season 7 and 8 Like there’s barely any reaction from the team in regards to clone Shiro aside from a handful of sentences because uh, Lotor is doing something.

Lotor really was just manipulating Allura for his powerful anti Voltron and she shouldn’t have really fallen for it but like the characterization is happening as the plot demands it. You know, in a show with proper pacing this wouldn’t have felt so out of place in terms of Lotor developed through multiple seasons only for him to have a swerve after 3 “seasons” of building him up as the more ally questionable guy who maybe had good intentions only for them to slide into evil. This show was only 78 episodes. Oh no, now they’re losing the castle so they don’t have a house anymore Lance has had a silent development to being almost like the leader guy’s second in command and like a supporting bro but he still feels like he’s treated as a joke

Voltron Legendary Defender (7 and 8) Whooof, this was not good.

Voltron season 7 We are now going to earth Keith’s main character sitting looking outside a window energy The children are relentless, they called him an Emo Romelle is the only person who’s like “wait dude we had all of that plot happen and you’re just moving on?” The answer is “yes.” This one kid is just beefing with Keith multiple times James.

Shiro is DYING? Who was that guy Was that Adam…? Like, I heard there was a guy called Adam who was said to be a love interest and then he died. I feel like everyone got trapped with terrible passengers aside from Hunk and his mice The dog can teleport?

A lot of this show isn’t even registering in my mind anymore because like most of it is just “hi pidge” because I like Pidge Romelle is a character that I feel like exists because they wanted another altean character Is the colony ever going to be revisited? Guess not.

Edit for season 8: I’m honestly surprised they remembered that. When’s the last time I’ve seen aliens or the Voltron alliance or anyone that weren’t Galras

Uhhhh. Idk. When’s the last time we saw a mecha vs mecha fight Lotor. The mice have contributed more than Coran in the rescue effort currently Also there’s a time skip or something A few years I think

Korra did the exact same thing with a time skip tbh How does this factor into the later episodes?

Everyone else thinks Voltron is gone By the way, isn’t Voltron literally just like doing the thing the empire does by uniting the people except with Voltron How exactly is the universe going to move on if Voltron doesn’t exist anymore How many times has Voltron actually been formed within these seasons Uhhhhh

My brain is forgetting VLD as I watch VLD. I feel like there has been less active character development and more or less like there have been scenarios. Game show? They brought out Lotor’s dead body for the game show

How is season 7 still iterating the “lance is dumb” thing Like at this point the writers just don’t like him You ever get the feeling that the writers straight up don’t want to work on their show anymore and they hold nothing but contempt for their creation because this game show episode has some real hater energy attached to it Keith only voted for Lance to leave so he wouldn’t have to deal with him

Voltron having an offscreen timeskip is a bit silly but Korra also did that so I’m guessing that as the next “avatar successor” or whatever the dragon prince will probably do the same An episode where everyone is just stuck in the vast infinity of space Is there anything making them friends outside of Voltron, asks Keith, the guy who left the group for 2 years 7 seasons in and the whole groups in- fighting

Dang, everything’s gone to crap because the Galra Pidge’s dad immediately starts explaining everything to the military academy No one is gonna believe there are aliens This single woman is being a real stick in the mud I’m not gonna remember any of those guy’s names man So wait, if this was 4 years ago and Voltron was gone for 3 years what happened to the extra year

You know, a lot of this would’ve been better to see spread out over time instead of in like, a single flashback episode Well, it’s good that everyone believed instead of it being like “aliens are real, nah.” What’s Mako doing here It’s all the Voltron videos being broadcasted!

And now Voltron is being integrated into earth military and oh no, conflict, or something

Keith is out here with a speech to Hunk being like “you are the bravest guy and I am ride or die for you” How did Allura know that her magic crown gem would magically heal Shiro’s arm Idk

Is bro going to be able to do a rocket punch? Hmm. The lack of aliens and the lack of giving earth development time is making this really boring, ngl. If earth is only explained in some kind of supplementary material or interview I haven’t seen then that makes it worse I hate when a thing has to be explained with outside material that can be contradicted or was just made to hastily cover up a plot hole within the thing proper. Why not just idk like, put the explanation in the thing. I hate having to get an explanation outside after the thing’s already over, that’s what causes problems after the fact especially if the outside material isn’t easily accessible. Many cases with games I’ve been into at some point… outside lore books and tweet fixes don’t solve the game’s plot especially if people who play the game don’t know about those things.

I just checked and there’s a lot of different dubs... I was kind of expecting it to just be English only. Maybe a rewatch I’ll watch in a different language if the show ever pops up back onto Netflix (note: written out before December 6th when the show was removed) That single admiral lady for all intents and purposes was right about like, mass planet confusion and like them being unprepared, but also, we unfortunately have protagonist morality being applied so naturally somehow she will be made to be the villain despite being like semi reasonable of “yeah so I’m not really 100% into the whole magic lion alien thing” and tbh it did all blow up in the timeskip And the admiral lady was a sellout Not even surprised.

Why did she think that the race of aliens that were described as bloodthirsty warlords would actually uphold the deal with her Is she stupid Shiro now has his own giant ship I’m still bugged by the fact that the lions no longer match colors but that’s whatever Maybe it’s a convention thing Since like Red guys are usually the leader for sentai teams Voltron’s not a sentai though…

Keith really launched straight out of the Voltron and did one of those cool “sword cuts where you only see the movement” thing Cool.

Voltron has two swords now

This is the most I’ve seen the robot do things since the last season’s finale The ship has its own transformation now Ohhhh, its like Shiro has alluras role now since the ship was made from the remains of the lion castle Holy slug 2 robots Why is his so big Do we even need Voltron anymore when there’s such a huge ship Wait what When did Adam even die??? When you blank out so hard during the fight scenes you miss the thing

They said the thing Defenders of the universe Season 7 also feels like a finale. Minus the cliffhanger

Woahhh, that’s Voltron, the Og show Romelle, I forgot she was there. “Allura’s a little different” yeah that’s because she’s been white in every former iteration Pidge left home at 15 but Voltron had that long time skip Like space years?

Girlies shopping era! They reintroduced trading and bartering to society Bro talk. Not a big fan of Lance being called annoying and stupid but also the Lance that’s got my back Make up your mind. Oh right, the hag witch lady… They forgot about her.

Lance was on that humble grind. Sometimes the writing works for this show and dynamics and other times it’s like “lmao quiz show” You know, if Lotor was also meant to be like a half Galra child then why did he never have by meaningful interactions of Keith I feel like maybe the plot important haggar flashbacks should’ve been like in the early episodes of the flashback that was like 4 seasons ago

So like, is quintessence like an evil force Nothing good has come of it Everything in this show can be blamed on one family

That is a child There’s a little boy on my screen This family sucks Already the seeds of evil are like “if my dad is mean to me I’m gonna be mean to others too” Lotor’s mom twisted the narrative immediately but tbh Voltron has caused like multiple power vaccums

Hey is that justice guilty gear No. There’s a beast now. I had zero expectations of this show but it only proves my theorem of “the worst thing something can be is painstakingly boring.” 😴 Like alternate universe Altea could’ve been this antagonistic force but it was only one episode but then they bring the colony back which is close enough, I guess. The word I was thinking of is mediocre. In another world, Voltron would’ve been like, a show that had more than 78 episodes with proper pacing to explore all the ideas instead of this thing where I’m like “well, the first three ish seasons were good, the rest were okay….” And there are 8 seasons. There are some episodes in like the large thing that were good right, but like, I’m not a fan of inconsistency and Voltron LD the show was definitely inconsistent.

Single alien awkwardness. Break the cycle of hate and pain She couldn’t 😔 Dang, is this show setting up for everyone but Lotor to be seen in a good light The documentary recording episode sounds like a nice concept but it’s kind of tonally out of place like it would’ve worked if the tone wasn’t going for “we need to be super serious” , it was the same issue with the game show episode being out of place

Allura is the struggler, she’s just found out that she’s not the last of her kind, and all her people hate her Hunk is the one guy trying to get people to get along with his cooking Dungeon Meshi memories coming back The way to the people is through food

Honerva literally uses her powers to attack people if they try saying anything There is an entity Allura don’t That’s the entity speaking to you The most intense animation will sometimes be thrown into the randomest things, like Shiro arm wrestling It feels like the show has no sense of tension sometimes like was there supposed to be a juxtaposition of the team going to the fun time amusement park with Allura being tempted or

They are now in the nightmare dimension Honerva trapped the old paladins in the nightmare dimension At this rate I’m just reporting on what’s happening because like there is zero emotion going on for me in regards to anything Voltron is kind of a terrible defender 10,000 years and Zarkon was causing trouble because the lions were gone, then Voltron was gone again and earth was basically taken over and the alliance fell apart The lesson here I’m learning is that Voltron is not good and maybe you shouldn’t put all the pressure of the universe onto one thing. Literally if the way to keep peace is to have a big weapon then that’s not really peace. I’m not sure what Voltron is going for here being like “Honerva was good but corrupted and now she just wants her son back” like she wasn’t being an active threat to the entire galaxy even now They for real just showed Lotor’s corpse Is she trying to resurrect him or is she in denial or what What was the point of even trying to go with trying to make the viewer think he’s alive if he was just a hallucination

The illusion Zarkon is like “my wife loves her son, who I thought was lame.” Haggar/Honerva’s grand plan being to reunite with an alt dimension version of her husband and son where she’s dead and destroying reality is just the plot of the spiderverse movies

Hang on Let me google someting Yeah so unless spiderverse already was a comic with that exact plot premise my man literally looked at one of his old plots and said “wait that was pretty good, let me reuse that” I’m looking at the wiki page and literally Voltron’s final episodes/season came out on the same day as the first spiderverse Huh?

Voltron is the power of friendship (tm) Since I’ve been watching transformers a lot recently I think it would be cool if the lions talked. Like, once or twice or something. I know there’s said to be a bond but it’s all psychic. I’m looking at the war room full of characters and like I’m going… I kinda forgot all of you guys. The characters feel less like characters and more like set pieces to progress the plot at this point. Pointing: white.

I feel like a lot of media going for like “the multiverse is in danger” just starts feeling like unrealistic scaling because really, the sheer thought of that like, immesurable number makes it harder to take it seriously, at least for me. Also like, the galaxy in danger vs every galaxy in danger and the other galaxies don’t have their own voltrons? No? I know the stakes should feel bigger, but they really don’t. Because once the multiverse is thrown in you don’t really think about all of the other worlds, right…? Eh, what am I even saying. What about that one TMNT special? I haven’t watched that in years, also. That was timelines. Timelines and alt. Universes are not the same. Timeline divergences don’t count as seperate universes?

I’m literally thinking about all of this right now as Voltron is fighting Honerva or something, I’m on the final episode and I’ve completely checked out. She’s destroying the fabric of reality or something. Not many medias have the gumpton to pull off an ending where the protagonists completely fail and everything is destroyed as the permanent finale

FF14 1.0 did that kind of That was mostly because the game literally sucked so much that the new director (Yoshi-p) went torch it, blow it up, let’s make it a cinematic too Usually the media has an entire sequel about restoring the world. Yeah, that was 2.0 Join us Allura Okay so the whole time I was like “Voltron kind of sucks as a defender, right” Like all the problems are built around relying on just Voltron. Okay, so the best thing the finale could’ve done was destroy Voltron if they were gonna do that because it has all the quintenessence too

Why did they kill Allura Like out of all the decisions to make they decided “yeah so you know how Allura has basically been suffering her whole life what if she died on top of everything too” Like they could’ve written that sacrifice any other way Team kill

1 year later Keith is going to help rebuilding the empire. Hunk is a chef for the galaxy. Pidge built a robot brother. THEY DID WHAT TO LANCE He shouldn’t just be a farmer… That’s gotta be motivated bro. That’s gotta be an act of spite.

Coran didn’t even get to say goodbye when he basically raised her after her dad died Lance: I miss my girlfriend, Keith. I’ll be back. Especially if the LIONS LEFT AT THE END What Was the POINT They really said “we’re bailing, lmao”

Season 8’s finale felt like it was made solely to anger anyone who was still around during that time Not the final part of the show being a literally PowerPoint dudeeee Who is THAT I HAVE NEVER SEEN THAT MAN IN MY LIFE

I can’t imagine what it’d be like for people who want to work on the next Voltron show or if there will ever even be a next Voltron show because I feel like anyone who suggests it at production is probably just like “not that show.”

Rating of Avatar Likes I’ve seen this year so far Korra: B- (i liked season 1 and that was about it tbh everything else felt like the writers spinning a wheel and throwing darts at ideas they thought about it that happened to coincide with almost fanfiction ideas ) Voltron: C (bare minimum I’m giving it, it’s not even a good mecha and that’s what it was advertised as), I’d give it less points but I’m being kind to the first three seasons. Avatar Live Action: lmao

Anyways, that was the Voltron legendary defender detour Maybe I’ll add the OG show to my never ending watchlist Back to transformers

September Media Log

Sept Grab Bag

Boundearth
An earthbound sprite animation that is 2 hours long and ness is speedrunning You already know it’s going to be wild when the intro says bruh That was not the melody song The mother 4 rendition of snowman?! Look if I went through every single joke I’d basically just be posting the entire thing at this point. I don’t have words to describe how much of a wild ride that was. You just need to watch it.

You watch something and go “that was like so mediocre I don’t even wanna put it on the media log” Wise man’s grandchild was that show for me. I completely forgot about the subscription and hit the random button again. So it’s the standard Isekai routine of truck-kun/car-chan Isekai’s kinda a big thing for… a lot of stuff. I’m not sure, but the way that this is going is like within the first 15 minutes he’s already avenged his parents and killed a demon and they speak quite nonchalantly and I’m not sure if that’s just like, the dub.
Im trying not to think too hard about like the energy of the dub being like flat boards and how the animation keeps fluctuating between like decent and complete PowerPoint transitions and I can see the frames. So the concept is there but the execution is like I feel like a lot of Isekai stories would be interesting when it’s from the perspective of a non Isekai person especially since the MC is like absurdly powerful as is to the point he’s not supposed to be used by the military And then the hot springs fanservice episode… man. Completely unnecessary, like did I have to see that? This could be a lot more interesting if there wasn’t like this weird presentation of it all where it feels like it should be one thing about a guy being in magic school doing social events and having his friend group go “what’s WRONG with him” instead of goofing around when there’s an active demon invasion about to go on.

In terms of Naruto part 1’s final filler parts, the definition of filler is to make sure it doesn’t make sure it catches up to the main story and I feel like it can be good when it’s actively like trying to reflect the themes and characterization of the story’s source that comes before instead of just being like “everyone is acting weird to make sure we can pad out time.” Some of these ideas have been good, other ones have been questionable, most are forgettable especially since it’s not like they’ll ever be acknowledged when Shippuden rolls around.
So in terms of the big 3, Naruto, Ichigo, and Goku, It makes sense why Naruto could be like, a role model type I guess and ultimately a big large influential show for the internet landscape of the 00s. (Note: Inuyasha was also a big one so I gotta watch that one too.) Naruto is a good person because in spite of the village hating him he wants to be a better person and lead these people who have scorned him at every way and isolated him and he could’ve just been sasuke leaving the village after the village was responsible for killing his family because of their paranoia over power.
I guess this would’ve been way worse as a manga reader wanting to see your favorite scenes animated and then you have to sit through an episode of filler because like watching the show as it aired means you wouldn’t know if it was filler or not until you hear that one song with the whistle and know its gonna be an episode of the crew doing absolutely nothing. Kinda wish Netflix didn’t automatically skip over the endings though, I like listening to the new ones. In terms of personality though, filler also has the problem of making scenes that are manga canon be stretched out because like personality and feats might end up being a problem when it ends up later contradicted by actual canon info like if two characters who canonically didn’t meet or interact did interact within a filler and it either has to be ignored or like glued onto the interaction for the manga stuff. In terms of the dub, it’s kinda funny because uhhh, Naruto’s VA is in a Disney show called lab rats using the exact same voice. There are two guys in the Naruto world named Menma. The other one’s from a movie. You can tell that that this final part is a filler because Naruto’s nasty dirty apartment actually gets cleaned. Why are there three guys in Naruto named Menma
In terms of the movies, no notes, because I’m not doing the note thing anymore, and also, they’re the epitome of BIG filler where they only exist to fill out time. Did these go to theatre like the DBZ and pokemon movies did? I live in a fascinating time where most movies I saw as a kid were on TV when they had movie marathons or the movies were direct to DVD ones.

Madoka and Gurren Special

I was supposed to just watch the OG but somehow I went backwards and watched rebellion first but that was like months ago so now I’m actually going back to finish up Madoka stuff Why is Gurren lagaan also here Because I was supposed to watch them both and my service took both of them off at the same time so they’re in my brain like that and I’m pretty sure there was a fandom overlap at one point since they came out in the same year Who could possibly forget about “steals the bike and runs” Or you know “that wasn’t very cash money of you” My city now. Madoka… become meguca! It’s really weird after remembering hidemari sketch existed because the exact same artist’s style is used for madoka minus the surrealism of witches which is totally different So yeah remembering it it’s a nice looking movie with plenty of symbolism that flew over my head
Imagine sacrificing your time for years to try and keep one person out of the hell you’ve created for yourself to save this person and then not only do they solve it in one go they also wipe all traces of their person from reality so no one knows what they did except you Homura did not ask you to do that but breaking the laws of reality to drag her out of heaven is a bit much probably and like I know it’s supposed to be “madoka saved everyone from the faustian bargain of being a magical girl and inevitably losing to your emotions and your soul sent to eternal damnation because she represents the ideal selfless magical girl” but like it’s complicated because Homura is representative of the selfish magical girl who wished for something for someone else so she’s like Sayaka in that regard except Sayaka got out of the whole thing relatively quick and Homura had to live with her mistakes for years on end on loop and I think Madoka became more of a symbol to her than a person in the end Like in her mind, Madoka= being saved Even if it meant saving her from herself
PMMM is fascinating because I watched the original on YouTube years ago and went “wow” because it was good and then I look back and see it’s become a multimedia spanning franchise with a bunch of shows that attempt to replicate it but miss the point entirely Also it’s funny when I watched sailor moon in between because kyubey is like “we’re using magical girls and their emotional energy to stave off the heat death of the universe” Usagi would’ve been able to solve that in like two episodes just let her charge up the silver crystal no need to do all that
How many anime characters could reasonably solve that though I think Goku would try to fight it I feel like if you like… conceptualized the heat death into a final boss you could solve it so like a few RPG protag could clear it (Isn’t that literally just the plot of endwalker)
I’m out here googling “what anime character could solve the heat death of the universe” The closest answer I’ve got is frieza wishes the dragon balls to destroy entropy The Gurren lagaan cast could solo it Note to self: watch more mecha shows and then see if this question can be answered better What a stupid question
PMMM (dub) I’ve never watched madoka dubbed, let’s check that out Haven’t watched OG PMMM since like the time i randomly found the subs on YouTube and those subs are definitely still not up. I think it’s always nice to go back to the source material after years of nothing but spinoff stuff and fanfics and go “oh wait, yeah, this still holds up.”
Is that Morgana Madoka does play with the tropes of like you know, the dark magical girl with her own agenda but in this case it’s to completely turn it around (note to self: watch more magical girl shows aside from precure and sailor moon) The first wish timeline wise was Madoka wishing to like save a cat or something, i think? That’s why there’s one with her in the opening. Anyways the opening is basically for Homura’s perspective on like the time loop. I think. And rebellion is the same thing except it’s to go “yeah things went terribly.” What’s up with all the windows and mirrors. Like there’s 4 madoka’s in that one scene alone. Do you think the red ribbon or yellow ribbon would’ve been a timeline divergent thing or does it stay consistent everytime
This rewatch is just gonna be me looking at all the details and going like “is this meant to add to the surreal feeling intentionally or is that just something the studio did” because what was that clock Of course she’s gonna seem standoffish and weird she’s been at this for years on end having this memorized like a script
She’s catholic???? Actually this explains everything about Homura ever. Is Homura supposed to be the cat in the opening
Stay as you are forever Woah, the whiteboard moves automatically …that’s the thing you’re noticing the most? They think Homura is a chuuni (middle schooler syndrome where the person legitimately thinks they have powers and acts all mysterious and aloof but everyone actually thinks they're a weirdo, 8th grade is still middle school so it checks out) Wait, I think I recognize Sayaka’s VA but she’s not credited in the game, she was angelic buster’s VA from MapleStory Also a magical girl, and a dragon. I think there was some major controversy about her though recently because of like a hand sign or something. I have not paid attention to MapleStory ever since I saw Jett get deleted (see you space cowboy.) I think my service looped back to the beginning of the episode, thus reflecting what homura had to go to. My brain is trying to remind me of the mobile game anime adaption stuff and like I think Mami became like a gun pope I do not remember. I think their attacks are based on their wish, but how did a car crash equate to guns In happiness charge precure the girls got their attacks based off their imagination and I remember the pink one (i don’t know, some adjective, but it wasn’t like pink or happy or lucky or lovely because those have been names before) had laser beam eyes You know I feel like the way the opening intro is like magical girl stuff and then the ending is like Madoka is running in the darkness should’ve been a tip off but they don’t change the ending until after episode 3 ,good on them The impression of “why not just ask kyubey about all the stuff before becoming a magical girl” when it’s clear that he’s going to omit as much information as possible to ensure he gets that contract plus he does it in clearly dire moments is another one of those arguments I recalled where it’s more or less like “I don’t think some of these arguments like get the show” Episode 3 accidentally leaked with urobutchi being on the credits page right, that was pretty much the thing where people realized “wait a goddamn minute” because he’s known for making shows where everyone is miserable (thunderbolt fantasy seems to be the exception) My favorite thing was whenever people would liveblog Madoka on tumblr and then be like “WHAT” whenever scenes happen in Madoka Episode 3 is really the moment where you decide if you’re in or out of PMMM How many times has Homura watched Mami die like that Okay now who does madoka’s English VA also voice It’s chikai nanami! Hope… despair… danganronpa. Note: that is not a Danganronpa exclusive thing but like I was in the tumblr trenches for years so it’s like a Pavlov effect. I’m noticing a few of these VAs for the cast are also in sailor moon lol Charlotte kinda got really popular even before she got her human form with Bebe The theme of the witches with the lyrics popping in for the credits only now Homura being the only one to reach out toward her Like even the text is red now Do you think Mami’s apartment owner ever showed up like one day and was like “where did that girl go” within the span of the timelines Like how many times do you think Homura has been through these exact same conversation pieces within the loops No one will notice shes dead It can’t be helped Madoka will never forget the girls that died I’ll remember you But she doesn’t That’s how you pronounce Debussy? In a timeline where this guy doesn’t get healed like what would Sayaka’s wish be or is it consistent every time Oh yeah if you look during episode 4 you can see the corpse of the witch landing Episode 5: there’s no way I’ll ever regret it Kyubey would be like the total opposite of the anti spiral because like kyubey is actively harvesting the power of human souls while the anti spiral is like human emotion is too hard to handle, we have to actively nerf them What I’m saying is Kamina could solve Madoka I think Justifying the magical elements with non magical solutions such as “oh yeah you hallucinated.” Sayaka poke gif The music tries to make this sound like this is a chill moment and things are gonna be normal but like I know things are only gonna get worse from here!! That familiar is a BABY Did Kyubey contract with a literal INFANT The head tilts are increasing Hey Madoka, wanna be a magical girl now Kyubey is like that one guy who wants you to get into smoking and being like ‘Madoka you would be the SUPER SMOKER’ and meanwhile Homura is like ‘Madoka do NOT become a smoker look what it did to your friends’ The reason Kyoko got mad is because in supplemental material she was friends with Mami before she left Literally all I hear is Morgana when Kyubey is speaking Does this make things better or worse personally It’s just distracting, that’s all. Why does homura do the hair flip thing every time She got really into the being cool image It looks pretty stupid ngl It could be a nervous thing Like maybe in alt timelines she’d fidget or press her glasses I like how kyubey gets to do all his silly mascot noises but it just adds to him looking weird He just ate a soul Madoka… talent!
Up next: Kyoko plays DDR Do you think pop n music exists in the Madoka world I like how the DDR game exists and its meant for three people but the girls are so out of sync that Kyoko is soloing They’ve never been able to properly team up ever For reals! They really put Mami on a pedestal immediately She’s the exception, she’s the ideal magical girl Sayaka immediately starts guilt tripping Madoka
Madoka’s mom gives like the best advice for the vague situation that Madoka described but like I don’t think telling her mom “yeah my bestie is trying to beat this other girl to death” was the best idea Oh… this is making me sad because madoka’s mom is talking about her growing up to be an adult and she doesn’t get to do that She isn’t even allowed to go drinking Doing nothing vs doing something Homura can teleport The philosophy of “why do you get weird when your soul isn’t located in your body” because that’s weird! It’s like if your mind was in the soul gem, it’s metaphorically wrong. And also Mami literally died because her head got bit off.
That’s what the soul gem is They’re like zombies kinda Kyubey only cares about the quota The episodes are going so much faster now that the plot is kicking in about the nature of magical girls and witches which makes Madoka the show that’s really good for marathoning instead of doing it at a weekly pace Kyubey purposefully omits info so he can get the quota Ultimately having an non empathetic being in charge of human emotions makes things dangerously lopsided and like, rebellion corrects this by having kyubey feel pain for the rest of his life die you stupid mascot agony and pain forever Where are Sayaka’s parents Like literally she has no parents in sight Homura is out here like: yeah I don’t tell people because I’ve looped so many times telling you guys this so like my bad Madoka is about the theory of thermodynamics and equivalent exchange
Episode 8: I was stupid, so stupid Yeah she killed those guys on the train Yeah she just SHOT kyubey and he had stuffing blow out I said “do not do that Madoka” You know Homura really is like the one girl who is like “Madoka you need more self esteem” but like maybe doing soft resets to the timeline caused her to lose the self esteem because homura’s spent so much time chasing away madoka’s canon event that it’s changed her as a person
Have we done this before, homura? Have we met? Literally meanwhile Homura is having a whole breakdown Kyubey literally just eats himself Gross Ouuugh time travel
The incubator line does not hit the same as the sub version Because it’s like “in Kyu bator” like the Japanese VA emphasizes the raw hatred homura has for that stupid thing You know they composed a good scene when it still hits the same way it does years later where you go “goddamn” My favorite part about this is after the insane ending there is like fanart drawn by the team where there is a disconnect of the show and the content entirely and this extends to the opening too Madoka is the anime equivalent of the Venus flytrap where you go in expecting one thing and end up with an entirely different but the same wild ride
Yeah how do you know that witch is Sayaka Starts screaming in Sayaka’s voice Yeah I’d take that as hard confirmation. Madoka is like a show that points out like the general tropes of other shows and goes “well, they won’t work here because… they won’t.” Like kyubey harvesting energy is a sailor moon thing in my eyes, the whole “person gets corrupted into an evil form” is like not precure exclusive but it’s a pretty common way to make an MOTW, and what I really need to do is watch more magical girl shows.
Do you think the anti spiral would kick in in the Madoka universe too What if the Fermi paradox applies to the Madoka world too Would you consider the life of an individual over the concept of the greater good health insurance commercial Quite frankly like it’s up to the person because what’s to say that greater good will even exist long enough for a hypothetical generation of people that they won’t even be in Hitomi really is like the person who accidentally causes so much tragedy just by having a time deadline It’s not like she knew what Sayaka did And it’s not like Sayaka knew she was visiting the guy either What is being a witch like Bad It feels bad
Tried looking on the wiki and ended up seeing things from Magia Record and going “uh huh, I see (doesn’t get it.)”. See, Kyoko is believing in the genuine magical girl story of love and hope and courage where like maybe Sayaka can be purified back to normal! Unfortunately she’s in the Madoka world The labyrinth is all of her regrets and what she wanted was to confess to that one guy Why is her attack wheels anyways Idk, wheel of fortune?
Homura’s only shown emotions to both Madoka and Kyoko and those were panic If Madoka had way more episodes we’d have like an entire 20 episode arc on the rivalry of Sayaka and Kyoko but the sheer fact they made me go “oh wow” within the small amount of episodes is kinda crazy Red Blue pairings, red blue pairings save me
Kyubey is a terrible thing but like how many timelines has homura abandoned Glasses homura had a heart condition and like the position of Madoka and shy Homura is wild And like OG timeline 1 Madoka was already a magical girl but pretty much every timeline having Homura snipe Kyubey forced her to become shy Madoka because for her being a magical girl was that thing that made her feel important Her name is Homerun, sorry
Homura forced herself to become cool for Madoka After all the other episodes it’s like we got forcibly sent to bizzare world with happy magical girl shennagins but the viewers know Homura’s power being just the time stop is so funny because like what does she do to make up for just having that as her ability She starts homebrewing weapons and stealing from the yakuza and it’s not magic she has real weapons Golf club homura would’ve been so funny to keep as a thing though Sayaka is always just not trusting Homura regardless of timeline It’s crazy how Madoka ends up saying the same thing but now in a magical girl outfit And Hitomi was still the cause for Sayaka based on her familiars
Considering that homura was basically the only one to have been turned into both a witch and back into a human and also have such an out of universe like thing of being trapped in a time loop and ending up having the guilt trip for giving Madoka karmic destiny and the threads of fate literally wrapping around her is it any wonder how she just decided after the events of episode 12 and rebellion to go “I am NOT doing that again” but like you look at her whenever she’s in civilian form during rebellion and she has eyebags of exhaustion
Rebellion was absolutely wild for having two outtakes of homura’s voice for the subs at the very end where one is her usual cold voice and the other is her voice returning to the cadence she had before the time loops because like homura looped so much her personality was permanently altered from her being like the clumsy nerdy girl and the sheer happiness she had during that outtake is supposed to be creepy but its just sad because she was forcing herself to put up a front and even then she doesn’t get to live with the happiness whatsoever Do you think homura’s red ribbon in the new form was to represent madoka’s bow It’s all the same in the end it’s about Madoka How long was Homura was in the hospital I think a time traveling witch would probably suck to deal with
Opening song! It’s like now the show is asking you “do you get it. The theme was for Homura the whole time.” And now all the other girls show up in the opening too like what a swerve. Sayaka got a single footnote in terms of being known and like Kyoko wasn’t even identified
The concept of utilitarianism and mutual benefits Kyubey literally deciding to dump years of mental civilization for magical girls and is it a wonder Madoka was like “I am going to prevent this” and ultimately kyubey attempting to pressure Madoka into the wish but like what exactly what would he have done if Madoka’s wish ultimately was too powerful and then destroyed earth
It was rigged to go wrong from the start if the aliens literally didn’t have emotions to understand why their emotions are so powerful Be careful what you wish for Anyways did you know that episode 12 originally aired on Good Friday in Japan Madoka is not beating the religious allegories Anyways before movies and supplemental materials pretty sure people theorized that Walpurgisnight was also just homura’s witch because she’s the only one that didn’t ever have a form shown Least til the PSP game immediately debunked that and like it would be the ultimate irony for the person to inevitably be destroying themselves Why did this theory come to mind Because she literally has spinning gears like homura does
This is the last conversation Madoka has with her mother ever by the way Please tell me you’re doing the right thing That’s the last time Madoka got to tell her mom that she loved her Unlike Sayaka homura doesn’t have healing abilities by the way Madoka has entered the lobby
Does anyone remember that tumblr post where Madoka instead said “I wish every single fandom confession blog was erased from existence” Madoka doesn’t even exist as an individual anymore she’s just a concept until Rebellion Ultimately the context of that one conversation in rebellion being that Madoka didn’t know that homura was talking about literally Madoka fading from existence and reassuring her that “actually I’d hate having to go away from everyone forever” because that Madoka was fragmented ultimately makes rebellion the story of “everyone in this cast has terrible communication skills” By the way the law of cycles is a pun referring to madoka’s name
Do you think if homura did another time loop for the ending of Madoka it would be more or less controversial than the OG rebellion ending before the movie announcement Anyways they did release a new trailer for the movie in between me doing all this watching so cool! I’ll also watch GL in the dub since I did for Madoka Is that YL I’m recognizing yosuke’s whines Well tbh America dub studios are like there’s like maybe 5 total and all the VAs are in them If I went to like 90s dubbed anime I’d probably see a bunch of VAs that were shared between products too The way Simon and Madoka are said are fascinating because it’s like enunciated English Kamina is not giving me the same energy as Japanese Kamina He needs like way more energy Madoka’s about girls, Gurren’s about boys Law of equivalent exchange
Kamina needs to sound like a guy who is 20 decibels louder than everything in the room Simon’s VA is hitting the screaming energy but like he is a guy who has multiple screaming roles like both hero and antagonist like can’t really compete with Sasuke That’s the DBZ narrator as Kamina in the dub???
Just as I need to watch more mahou shoujo, I also need to watch more mecha. Changed my mind, back to subs Official subs can’t really compare to how fansubs would give everyone like special text whenever they’d yell out attacks and things like having custom text for the lyrics Kinda miss that like there’s no TL notes or anything either Oh, so Simon is pronounced as Seemon regardless of sub or dub The cadence for dub and sub Simon is near identical
The advantage that an animation has over manga The music Colored in visuals The VAs
Advantages manga has over animation Way faster to read through My logic brain is turning off and note taking has hit an all time low and all I’m thinking now is “dudes rock” I call this the DBZ effect because whenever I see Goku I go “Goku!” And then I’ve watched like an entire marathon of DBZ related stuff. Nihilism of the indifferent universe vs The human spirit when it starts screaming about breaking limits WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU ARE I AM The only thing that’s not here in the stream service is like the bonus CD stuff works where they had a bunch of different animated segments

Maybe watching Madoka and Gurren back to back wasn’t the best idea but like it was a really crazy roulette of like feelings and emotions and things.

Murder drones (ep 1-3)

In terms of shows that exist in term of glitch techs, the amazing digital circus is pretty fun but I’ve never watched murder drones I’m immediately invested in the main girl and her PowerPoint and her railgun, let’s see where this goes What if robots were teenagers and robot on robot violence happened When you name the main character after a gun I can only feel like she’s gonna be more unhinged from there You watch this and go “wow, real fancy 3D animations and stuff and like ragdoll physics” and the robots are kind of emulating humans but not really getting it
Plot armor detected I feel my brain cells actively rerouting to enjoy the tall one like this guy and this show was made for me in a lab like Pomni and the tall raggedy Ann doll and ENA were made for me as well. The same effect was created when I watched RWBY in high school when I was shown it in the anime club. N was created by like giving him tendencies in characters that I enjoy. That is because at my core I enjoy awkward silly characters who are actually super powerful and can turn on a snap So true (Silver the hedgehog fan)
In terms of murder drones so far we got “lil meow meow” and two mean girls/girlbosses (tm) They weren’t kidding Those drones really can murder

August Media Log

I found out how to make spoilers in HTML so I'm gonna be putting my notes within those instead of huge dumps away, hooray.

JJK Dub Season 1 and JJK 0

I have like an entire backlog and instead I just rewatched JJK in the dub Sukuna has a voice that is borderline tweaking at any given time and it’s absolutely nutty. JJK0 got moved to the cinema section.
They’re making itadori into a sacrificial lamb Dub itadori oomf Nobara cool! Country kid besties!
Nah I’d win. Is this one thing that got me tripping… This is all the footage that people ever use in King of Curses, Jogoat. Quite frankly if I was Junpei I would not let talk to a dude who did that Being a sorcerer sucks but having to work for a living wage also sucks Mood Facing life or death situations do not make you an adult He’s a whole teenager Mahito’s a whole jerk and he’s like 3 years old at best Just because he looks human does not mean he’s human Oh yeah they still think Itadori’s dead
ED1 really is just jujutsu swag The Japanese depiction of the school bullying system in anime that then leads to the victims in the show lashing out and then proceeding to have nothing actually done about it in their IRL cases is outright bizzare because when said kids die as a result of it then the bullies clam up and say they didn’t have anything to do with it. How vile. And it’s a constant repeated plot point in shows too for years, you think someone would go “huh, maybe we should stop having it be common enough to be a popular plot.” Not like the States version of bullying is any better because teachers usually just end up going “both parties are at fault we have zero tolerance here”. Complete bullcrap. Junpei out here having philosophical conversations with a guy who was planning to kill him from the start
Jujutsu Jumping! That image of “life is meaningless and we have no value” and Junpei’s on the miserable side and Yuuji’s on the swag side with the sunglasses He was really about to kill his teacher before Yuuji came out of nowhere overtime as in he gets his own powers increased if he does more time So cool! It was a trap the whole time We got him How are you supposed to save someone who doesnt want to be saved whatsoever It was really mean of them to put him in the opening like he’d live
JJK really went from the get go “hey things are bad but don’t worry theyre gonna get way worse” Murder is bad Them both just laughing at him like “lol, lmaoooo” Tbat’s the JJK magic baby! Kill! Nanami and this bakery girl, he just wants a fulfilling kind of job or something like the reason for living
JJK would've benefited with filler that works like the way naruto doe if it was an entirely different show where they're like ghost busters or something.
JJK rules are so funny like what do you mean explaining it makes it work better I still have no clue what a black flash actually is outside of it being the coolest thing possible like “we concentrated this energy so hard you get lightning” sick Cuz your battle is my battle Why they hitting the Mario Luigi combos How are you supposed to deal with a power that is just canonically locking in My favorite part of watching JJK and knowing all the memes as the forefront thing is that megumi doesn’t really have the opportunity to ever summon mahoraga because he keeps getting stopped so as far as the viewers know Nobara and Todou are seriously putting in a ton of work and then it gets accentuated in later parts where they’re still getting extreme meme stocks like the boogie woogie My man canonically imagines an idol girl as his like stand at one point how do you deal with that too in terms of standing out as a character I thought that episode title said “Jututsu Kaisen” and I was like “no wayyy” but it was actually Jujutsu Koishen. Akechi Goro Megumi real ITS NOT RIGHT OR WRONG It really doesn’t help that while Nobara hit the black flash megumi was taking a snooze Brother fell asleep He had his whole domain expansion moment and talked about his sister and then went “honk shooo” So since Sukuna’s JP VA is Archer (Junichi Sawabe, also Erasherhead from MHA) does this mean it’s another case of “ideals blah blah”

Naruto Part 1 (Filler Hell continues)

Naruto filler is perfect for mindlessly feeling your soul being drained out of you while job hunting and stuff Naruto’s perspective for part 1 is that “being a ninja sucks because you become a tool” but then it contradicts this right before filler hell by being like “Sasuke leaving the village marks him as a traitor”. It’s a world that is fueled by war. Like Metal Gear. Does this make Kurama REX and like the council Shadow Moses? Idk. I haven’t watched MGS related content in years. I'm still watching filler as if any of this is relevant.
They kinda just go with “Naruto has to do some missions to get Sasuke” but like, if they were so concerned about contradictions to canon they couldn’t have made up some episodes focusing on other characters without naruto or something, because I feel like a lot of these episodes would do better with a lack of naruto. Main character syndrome is kicking in again where I go “man this story would be way cooler if that guy wasn’t here” and that guy in question is the titular guy.
The effect of “whee yay adventures fun” and then I think too hard and it’s like “these are children and they have barely any kind of adult support system that isn’t made up of adults that were also children that fought and other adults have tried to kill them and the world as a whole is reliant on training children as tools to solve their problems” and it is an incredibly common trope. Children fighting children for the fate of the world or children fighting adults that were used by the system as children again, is a common trope. Especially for you know, children or teenage centric media. The system itself is corrupted but the status quo isn’t going to be changed is a trope that is common, especially when you get characters who say that theyre going to change it become things that they’ll end up swept up in like the military or police. It’s like what happened with MHA before I dropped it where even when all might and all for one were gone the power vacuum immediately brought in a new number one hero and crimes still continued going upwards (note: I didn’t finish MHA but I know the LOV immediately got brought back to the front alongside AFO). Apparently burrito or something still has the child ninja soldiers so clearly my plot prediction of “Naruto abolishes the ninja child soldier training regime program” is not happening. Naruto and Bleach sort of have the same thing going on that Organization 13 does with like a group of dark hooded mysterious blokes KH2 came after dummy
Filler I think is good in moderation, but 3 seasons of straight filler is insane Filler is good for when you don’t need to pay attention and do like chores and stuff
I just watched an episode where Sakura basically sinisterly mentally attacked these two imposters and I wish she held this energy within the story proper None of these lands are canon The latest arc I’m in feels like a scooby doo scenario, so I guess that makes Naruto Shaggy and Neji Fred Naruto was in the land of birds and he saw a ghost The guy paying them was the bad guy Just like Scooby Naruto how are you a guy with a fox demon inside you but also afraid of ghosts In the new credits Naruto is dressed up like a dog (everyone dressed up like dogs) Sasuke was not there so I did not have to see that Characterization does not exist for these episodes because they need something to do That one theme where the little whistle is playing is like the definition of “nothing is going on.” I’m saying Naruto is about ramen
The ramen guy is fighting a ninja for cooking Naruto is using his rasengan to cook ramen Ain’t no way Naruto has the shadow clone jutsu and can make 100 of himself why even ask that question you saw him do that I feel like the writers just drew straws out for what characters got what filler arc story wise Prediction time Isaribi is the one who’s actually the demon but being framed I see, orochimaru was behind the kidnappings Is that a horse? Yo… imagine if naruto had like cars. That would be weird. they have radios and stuff and demon creatures of magic powers but a car is where you draw the line yeah
Naruto got so mad at his clone eating his ramen he nearly had the fox destroy the town How did naruto even know about the jutsu to begin with, isn't he like 12 jiraya was so dissapointed by naruto messing with his manuscript that stopped a war with such a large cast of ninjas normally there's no time in the story proper to talk about them since the manga is usually on the main character which is a problem i had with sailor moon's manga adaption that goes straight as possible and makes it so that if you want to know anything about a character if it's not in the chapters it doesn't show up and the 90s anime is non canon so i guess filler is good for making it so that these characters actually get to exist at all instead of being side characters that people go "they had potential but they didn't get to show up" We'll see you again naruto nuh uh, you're a filler character and the best you might get is a 3 second cameo The dog got arrested
What about movies. WHAT ABOUT MOVIES. There’s only 3 movies for Naruto before shippuden so as a treat I will watch them Like a carrot on a stick to finish up 2 seasons of straight filler Will I finish it before summer ends? Absolutely not. at least its fun filler I still gotta get through pokemon XY anime and it's been like pulling teeth and they removed the site where i was watching the subs

what if naruto fought a castle chances are i should've skipped but like i feel like this is definitely a show that has made me completely turn off my brain to the point that i no longer think about the logical fallacies and just go "ninjas cool" and like none of this has consequences so like i can watch these characters actually do things instead of being like "i miss part 1" it is definitely the sunk cost fallacy kicking in this episode is focused on lee where it's like "lee as long as you train you can do it" but like there are clearly freaks of nature that will always outpass lee and that is why naruto (part 1) is ultimately not about talent, but it's about ramen and how being a ninja sucks hard work and perseverance vs raw talent and rock lee

are you telling me that this argument on the internet originated from a goddamn filler episode because like a good chunk of these filler episodes have been either "naruto goes on missions and learns ninja society sucks" or "naruto talks about ramen" why is might guy fighting mokujin

Naruto eating some ramen with an old guy and this guy goes “you are my boy now” like its what I’ve been saying even though this guy made like one of the most elaborate plans to destroy the entire village he gave up because Naruto was super enthusiastic and reminded him of his son so he kept buying Naruto ramen It’s about ramen The ramen itself is symbolic. For bonds.

Naruto fell for the genjutsu though This segment has turned into “the leaf shinobi fight an old guy” It was all an elaborate prank

They’re doing a clip show episode. Is this like the first time we’ve heard sasuke since he left Naruto and sasuke’s epic fight was number 1 obviously This new opening’s pretty nice vocal wise but why did they dress up everyone like that in suits and give gaara that fit I went and looked at the count and I’ve actually almost finished filler hell and if I get it done before the site revamp gets pushed I’m gonna be pissed off at myself What if Naruto met a girl who could control the weather through her paintings

I completely ruined my YouTube recommends and now I’m getting stuff like Gohan saves Minato from Obito and Vegeta and goku and trunks tag teamed in too They for real jumped obito for naruto

Media Selection Roulette

Rabbids Cont. Rabbids are okay in this in small dosages. And the human characters don’t infuriate me like other video game mascot driven shows. The episode where they all start speaking English was funny.

Rising impact (to continue) Golf Watched in English and immediately went “is that the jimmy neutron VA” and of course she was because once you hear that voice more than once it’s like playing the game of spot the VA only works for me on a 50-50 roll and it’s quite the recognizable voice They shipped this third grader to Tokyo

Watching miraculous ladybug: I’m only on season 1 and the only other context I have is the movie, tumblr posts that felt like when you’re fishing and see the discourse pass by on a hugeass boat, and YouTubers complaining about 7 seasons of the show. I have yet to see a fandom that hates their creator more because of a single character not getting a redemption arc and rerailing back to be a mean girl but Chole is really funny because she's just a Y7 Regina. The show's pretty flimsy because I feel like if you know that people turn into monsters when they feel heavy emotions you'd stop being mean but teenagers are just full of emotions either way. Honestly just turn your brain off, it's a Y7 cartoon. It is not that serious.

Listened to: Hai Yorokonde/ Kocchi no Kento Ohh, so this is the meme people were referencing Get it done!
Power star Rewatch (watched 8/10)
How many sprite animations were based off people watching the matrix and/or being inspired by other Mario sprite fighting animations So why exactly was Luigi just watching his brother get possessed by ghosts Don’t ask questions just watch the edgy AMV fights It’s so funny how Mario world sprites basically have turned him into this fighting chaos demon between this and all the castle chaos videos and whatnot while superstar saga sprites are now basically just seen as Goku because of all the other sprite fights The part where they just whip out katanas and keep going is crazy but this happens more than once (Okay, but you really can’t make me take Mario seriously especially if you keep in the voice clips from actual Mario going “broough” because it’s not gonna work, it’s why all the SM64 personalization stuff didn’t effect me as much because seeing Mario BLJ past the spooky crap inherently is funny in spite of it trying to be creepy) I like how you can sometimes tell what a person is into based on their music choices, like the creator liked tekken music. Tekken music goes hard. Good choreography too especially with the limited sprite set but once you start recognizing the metal slug explosions outside of metal slug you realize that a lot of people just used the same sprites and effects for their projects It still holds up compared to the other ones I’m probably gonna rewatch on the Mario side of sprite animations (Should I watch old MapleStory sprite animations? It’s been so long since I’ve even seen any of them or their posters and one of them moved onto being an FFXIV streamer so I doubt he’s coming back.)
Watching documentaries on animals and being into bird cams reminds me that i need to go back to my Pokemon tracking concept. It’s pretty funny because even if a pokemon was tagged like animals are like what are people supposed to do if the pokemon just blows up the tag or some trainer catches it. I guess this idea spawned from pokemon go since the trainers do catch a lot of one pokemon to send them to professor willow’s lab to be researched.
No longer allowed in another world
Watched the first episode of no longer allowed in another world. they put the hotline on the YouTube video Do you think the truck industry in Japan has been affected by the trope? Dazai Osamu… That’s the guy who wrote no longer human, right? I saw that book in alter ego. It’s on my reading list. Same writer for the anime wrote the mermaid princess guilty meal I think I read that too… she was sad because she was eating fish. I read the manga too I love a story that actually doesn’t meander on the plot and gets things done.

Lucky Star (Eng Dub Season 1)

YouTube recommended me the entirety of lucky star in the dub and why did I sit there and watch it engaged and go back to watch the other parts while coding up the site Judging by the release date of lucky star and reference to the PS2 the MMO she was referring to was FF11 Konata is out here watching anime and being a forum user and staying up late instead of working… she’s just like me FR… Shes playing monster hunter 2…. I should play one of those games at some point. Wow, they started singing cha La head cha la, this is just a show about high schoolers hanging out, slice of life is great. Some parts of this show are timeless. Konata’s father probably shouldn’t be allowed within a certain foot radius of schools though. The definition of tsundere being discussed has gotta be funny as hell because I’ve seen people have that argument before. Konata’s game talk is still real… Oh god, this was out in 2007? This is almost 20 years old soon?! The endings randomly switching to an IRL guy was good.
Before marathoning it in pieces through this YouTube video the only thing I knew about this show was the out of touch Thursday meme from tumblr. This is a show about hanging out. I guess the anime cameos here are from the same studio, right? In place advertising. she uses cooking mama recipes to help her cook... the brown haired girl in the new class has a VA I recognize but I don't know her name at all Oh, it's Kari's VA (digimon). I like how there was almost a warm family moment for purple girl and then it immediately cut to a joke with Konata Maybe I'll continue the 2nd part later, I kinda thought the first part with the girl dynamic was good but adding in new girls and leaving purple girl with them is going alright, I guess?

Late July Media

Nisekoi (Completed), Plus 2

I cut off the part of this where I talked about part 1 more because really I didn't have much to say outside of "I initially thought the MC was a girl because of the hairclip" and "the only thing I know is that bowgirl showed up in super mario maker" .i don't think romcoms are for me, i haven't had a single moment where i laughed or smiled or thought any of this was good outside of a few scenes.

like chances are he's either going with the childhood friend or the girl he's fake dating because that's how these types of shows go down unless there's some new girl that appears who also is a part of the childhood promise thing, but i don't think the MC would be that dense (i hoped not... unfortunately I was wrong.)

this new guy that showed up is like the Bifauxnen type of trope . I have to say that this show playing out straight as a romcom instead of following up the yakuza thing kinda blows. I can't imagine what it would be like to watch like 100 episodes of a show like this. Okay, the show did make me laugh once and it’s when the key broke. They introduced another girl into the story and the MC did unfortunately turn out to have the personality of stale water and apparently terrible memory issues with this stupid key thing. This has gotta be the most generic checklist of episodes, there’s the hot spring episode and the incredibly creepy beach fanservice episode. That one was all sorts of wrong. There is something wrong with all of these teenagers. I guess that’s supposed to be the appeal for self inserting and being like “yeah, I like this one and their personality!” And I’m just bouncing off. I don't think I get it, but I'm really not the target audience in mind.

There was also part 2, so that was 12 more episodes I had to sit through and feel nothing about. Only chemistry he had was with blonde so of course they ended up together…. The thing that interests me more is the random assassin subplot that happened because that actually ties back to the yakuza thing which is a far more interesting premise. I feel like the Christmas episode was also a good one since it focused on Chitoge’s mom who was pretty much absent most of the show. Whenever the actual plot is focused on it’s good. Orange girl has problems, she needs to get it together. I don’t like that this new character keeps getting perverted jokes surrounding her and it made the episodes for part 2 drag on. The animation style being SHAFT is a bit distracting because sometimes they add in little color effects instead of just having a normal scene. This is also me being stupid, but when I first heard 2’s opening I was like “did they get BUZY to sing this” when the entire band has been dead for years and only had 2 anime attached to their names. Anyways, it was LiSA. The only other romcom stories I have for source of reference are Maid Sama and Special A and who knows if those still hold up anymore considering I saw them as a child on that one anime channel that was on demand and I don’t remember the name anymore. I need to watch better romcoms instead of just going on Hulu and picking a show.

Thoughts on Korra, Season 2

I'm one of those people that never actually got to see the rest of Korra because nick hated the crap out of airing the show. So I started watching season 1 again, got to season 2.

I had a few tweets for season 1 where I was like "I think a story about Korra doing pro sports should have the effect of goku showing up to your tournament." The show takes a different direction after the sports thing though.
What if there was a “dark avatar” sounds like a fanfiction scenario but like no it’s official I saw a guy turn into a giant spirit monster with elemental powers and kill off the cycle like that isn’t an inherently franchise killing thing So like i said in my tweets about it I was like “that’s a series finale thing, not something for season 2…” It feels like they had way too many cooks of plots for this one but a problem is that I kinda don't care for whatever romance thing they're going with or the movie plot and it's like "hurry up I want to see korra do things". Basically, I think them having less episodes means these plots feel way more annoying to get through even though they're important, I just feel like they're overprioritized even if they are contributing to the plot. ngl I haven't even started season 3 and even I was like "korra should've plugged the hole" because why would you let the villain convince you that they were doing a good when all other evidence was pointing to that being bad?! you not wanting to do your job of being the literal bridge between worlds does not mean someone else has to pick up the slack!!

RIP Pokemon TV

You guys remember pokemon channel?

Pokemon TV is officially sunsetting in March, so I went out of my way to check out what exactly remained on the app after all the logistics of watching the app slowly lose all momentum. There’s only one season of the original series, the sun and moon saga up to journeys, and all of the pokemon short series and specials that were released over the years. Why is it dying anyways? The reason Pokemon TV is dying is because the distribution rights for pokemon is a nightmare, like a good chunk is on Hulu, Netflix owns the OG and sun/moon plus horizons and amazon probably has a bunch of it too. Also apparently having a nonprofit thing and hosting it has cost a bit of money and add the previous problem and its like… why keep it? Plus it’s redundant because all of the shows that I watched on Pokemon TV that weren’t the ash anime are uploaded to YouTube and they’re all shorts minus origins and Hisui so there’s not really a reason to have an app dedicated to it if someone can just watch it on YouTube I recall years ago when Pokémon.com had a little avatar maker and a bunch of flash games and I used it for dream world but all that stuff is gone now alongside all the features TV used to have, like more seasons and movies.

So here’s the things I actually watched with Pokémon TV!

Generations: I think the disparate rate of male to female player character ratio was kinda unbalanced in this one, also, Cheryl’s Chansey is that of nightmares. Next.

Origins: it was a good OVA series though I could’ve done with less charizard screen time. also its pretty funny how the final episode was like “look, mega evolution, that’s pretty cool!” and the gimmick is dead. I like the Red in this series, he’s simply a guy. Makes me feel bad for Blue/Green in this iteration since he kind of took Ls the entire time.

Twilight wings: Is the pokemon world unionized? Are the flying bird taxis on the union? I dont have any opinion about galar since I haven’t played it and only know things secondhand so it’s quite difficult to gauge this without being like… hmmm. Im normally okay with overemphasis on a pokemon, but something about Leon’s charizard acts as my personal kryptonite. Likely because it’s his ace and not even a galarian pokemon . It’s beautifully animated but that really doesn’t change the fact that I have no real attachment to any of the region so I’m just here going it looks pretty nice and having no emotions about the trainer cameos. This entire region based on just the show feels like it’s got a complex about Leon for being the unbeatable champion. The wooloo episode with Hop makes me feel bad in hindsight because he ditches his wooloo in a box in the game. It’s a really screenshottable aesthetic show, I suppose. Where are these hospitalized children’s parents.

Bidoof’s big stand: the world hates him. They want him gone. He got attacked by birds, the staraptor did the dizzy explosion reaction. Bidoof only was caught to be an HM friend and he won by stalling. It was incredible.

Pokemon evolutions: Good arceus never stray from the sugimori art style ever again lest we see the depths of what real humans would look like in pokemon amen. I don’t have anything else to say because it was just like generations in the fact that they condense one part of the game into the short and nothing else. Least they remembered that women exist.

Hisuian Snow + Poketoon: hisuian snow is kinda beautiful but it kinda makes me wonder why they have all this promotional material like twilight wings and have it star a character that doesn’t even cameo in the game hisuian snow has quite different vibes from the rest of the pokemon shows i’ve watched because hisui as a whole “we’re in the timeperiod where we have no clue what’s up with these pokemon things and we’re trying to survive” so its less of a story about monster taming and more about monster surviving but then there’s pockets of hope and friendship like from this show then it’s immediately contrasted by poketoon which has complete and utter style no matter what episode its on because whoever decided “let’s have a series where we have different animation styles for all the pokemon was a genius” but the pancham episode has a narrator that completely sucks the life out of the episode

Pokemon path to the peak: Well it’s about trading cards. I have no clue what’s with some of these production art styles being so non pokemon, same thing happened with the big stand. My thoughts were “It’s certainly out of my age range” and “Its not yugioh thats for sure” Does anyone remember that GBC card game? I’d love to see something like that. I like how the dad’s advice was “idk use your imagination” The whole time I’m watching it I’m like “it’s not that serious, it’s just card games, the adult division would’ve destroyed this child”. It was a fun watch though but that kept nagging me the whole time.

And that was really it. I’m not interested enough to get through the ash episodes that are still available when I can barely get through XY and those are on Netflix anyways. It’s kind of sad to see it go but it was pretty much dying for years anyways, I completely forgot I still had it downloaded.

Februrary 2024 I wish they let us know where origins went though

2024 Media (Jan-June)

Idk, should I put images for earlier parts...? Nah, I've got a lot on the site already...

YouTube has been recommending some pretty good artists to me like Yocrapaka Mihara but that’s mostly because I’ve gotten back into listening to Xref Xpec remixes. Last time in December I watched olive the other reindeer by myself because no one else had any interest in it. Along with that, this January I finished Ninjago. Well, the first part, not dragons rising. It certainly had varying quality by the end of it, my favorite one was probably everything before Crystallized, that one kinda fell flat. I’ve continued Death Note and I’ve hit the Yotsuba arc. It’d be kinda funny if the note kept getting passed around like a hot potato but I know that’s not how it works so I’m just waiting for the pieces of the dominos that have been set up by this business to completely fall apart. I’ve also continued Baki’s second season but I’m starting to guess that the plot as a whole is about the futility of trying to be the strongest, because otherwise it’s like, why exactly are they fighting this caveman. For clout? It makes no sense, but it’s engaging regardless.

Pokemon TV is shutting down so i was going to watch a bunch of the short stuff they put there only to lose interest from watching generations and all of the player characters from what I’ve seen so far were just the boy characters. I watched Origins as well, so now I know that Charizard propoganda has been there since the beginning. Mega evolution being there is quite funny in hindsight since it got cut. I’ll probably continue to watch everything from TV before March since the only worthwhile things are the shorts even though I know they’re all probably on YouTube or something. I also redownloaded pokemon cafe and I’ve gotten into masters ex, which I know is a terrible decision because I’m wired to hate Gacha. It’s also made me realize that I barely care about any human character in pokemon outside of a select few because they’ll be like “look, its the gym leader from this generation or this player character in a cool costume!” And I’ll be like “who gives a crap. Can I summon Red or another Blue (guy) yet?” Never in my life did I think that people had like, actual genuine interest in the human beings because there’s a world of magical creatures that can shoot laser beams. finished watching Pokemon coincierge as well. It was so cute! A glimpse into a slice of life Pokemon vacation. I do wish it was more than 4 episodes, once I got into it and the ending theme played out I was hooked.

Death Note (2nd half, Yotsuba Arc): They’re too busy doing this detective nonsense when they literally could’ve caught them immediately with Misa’s evidence. Everyone acting in their own interest during the yotsuba arc was pretty interesting because Misa had some independence despite the fact that she’s clearly in the wrong show. Only thing is I think the new intro’s a downgrade. It’s kinda crazy how Light and L did all that stuff and then Light immediately went back to killing. All according to Keikaku. If L spotted the watch then it would’ve been over entirely. I’m on the final stretch with L’s successors now.

Sonic Prime (3rd Season, complete): Did I talk about finishing sonic prime or did it skip by because it was kinda nothing but fight scenes and I didn’t care much. Nine is a compelling character but I do not understand how the dimensional stuff works and I don't think the show wants me to either.

Baki Hanma (2nd Season, complete): to think baki would end with yujiro cooking his son invisible food after the insanity of the caveman thing. yujiro hanma would just flex his muscles really hard to break glass and that would work he’s like the embodiment of total masculine toxicicity except this entire show has never had a moment of awareness except with the caveman and the big scientist guy being like “this entire thing is stupid”. these are the most grotesque men i’ve ever seen this entire premise is stupid and yet it is so compelling because the entire show is solely about a bunch of overpowered weirdoes screwing around. the plot twist that this has always been the cycle of violence with yujiro’s dad and baki’s grandfather makes it kinda crazy huh. this show is baffling because everything in or out of context still make no damn sense. sea king retsu became a boxing champion because the caveman cannibal ate his leg like what…?

Pluto: I finally started watching Pluto after having it on my list for so long. It’s an interesting take on the greatest robot arc from the OG, seeing everyone drawn in more realistic art styles was a bit jarring. This shows all sorts of crazy with the murder mystery and the evil robot and the war and the racism but that was all in the original too. Reinterpretation and pulling from the source material really works.
Wakfu (To Continue):W akfu was on here at one point and I got to the part where it turns out the main character is a dragon and the dragon mentor fought a time lord and it was an entire anime battle animated in flash and it made me go “wow.”
Rabbids (Why am I watching this): Rabbids Invasion is apparently something I’m putting time into watching even though its brainless. I’m kind of endeared to only some Rabbids who manage to experience remorse instead of being crapheads.
Miscellaneous: Infinite Craft just reminds me of little alchemy. RPGmaker XP was free so I got it, too bad I have no knowledge on how to code anything and it all evaporated after school.
TPP 10th anniversary: How in the world has it been 10 years. They did gens past crystal? There was way more extensive lore to it? What the heck. I’m old.I’m in there too. We’re just ants on a keyboard attempting to beat Pokémon

Death Note Completed: I finished it after a few months in between after the Yotsuba arc and compiled my notes in a coherent summary. Good boy light with the evil eyes is so dissonant. Death note is a pretty crazy show. Is the main character in conflict over needing to kill his sister? Is it because things have been so out of control? And the answer is, Light has no clue what to do in this situation where his family is in a vulnerable position but so is his entire plan and that’s an interesting angle, right? I wonder what his dad would do about it all. Then they uh. Launched the death note through a missile and I thought “what is this show doing.” Obviously having the death note in the hands of that one guy doesn’t seem like the best idea, but I guess there’s not much that can be done now. Why exactly was all this notebook swapping with this new shinigami thing again…It’s a little weird

Dude light’s dad is dying and his first reaction is “you should’ve killed him” and was it because he lost the gamble with the shinigami eyes. Death note is good because it’s at a time where Light watches his dad die I’m like “was it genuine? Did he mean it?” And its that complexity that makes it good. Light’s sure in metaphorical hell at the moment. Kira’s making a dystopian internet hell. Did they all just forget Misa was Kira at one point in the show. The TV special guy has become consumed by the drive to get huge ratings. Matsuda is flaky and some people would be flaky in this situation. Light’s lost the plot. His sister is broken, his father dead, but he’s too invested. And now I think I get why the second theme song is so messy, because light’s a whole mess. The stair symbolism was him walking to be at the top of the world but he can’t do that. He’s going to hell. He’s gonna die. I just wish Misa wouldn’t die but chances are she probably will since she’s only loyal to Light.
Note. I don’t know what happens minus the fact that Light and L were dead, I came to the show knowing that. Conslusion Notes: I was incredibly distracted by the English VA for light because I had watched a show where the VA was the same voice so I just associated Light with that guy instead (It was Lan from the NT Warrior dub). Misa deserves to be in a better show because Light hates women. Mikami kind of feels like the writer had no clue where to go with the story so he just made up a new guy to handle the plot. The notebook swapping thing is contrived. Light’s not a good person but he likely would’ve just been a regular guy if not for the notebook allowing him to work with his worst most judgmental vices but people online saying it’s the fault of the notebook is stupid, he’d basically do the same thing if he had a gun and then he’d try to hide the gun. I think I liked the Yotsuba arc more but I liked Near for finally being like “okay fine let’s just get this over with”. Light’s not a tragic figure at all, he just decided to be judge jury and executioner where the judicial system was supposed to work, like did he actually make sure the people he was killing weren’t just accused or framed for crimes. I’m thinking too much about this. Matsuda being the one to shoot Light is a pretty good moment for him since he was the one who had like the most “normal” perspective out of the task force. His ass is not going to heaven.

Pluto (Completed): covered this last time, now I finished it. it was good. I kinda liked the parts with the detective more than with Atom but that’s because I’m a fan of detective stories. I think it’s a pretty poignant show about how paranoia leads to tragedy and war.
Steven Universe (Continuing): Steven universe is a show about horrible memories. Im not a fan of the beach town people episodes either. Remember that episode of gravity falls where dipper has a paper copy of himself that horribly died. It’s kinda crazy how this show had years of lying to Steven and Greg about Rose and her character development went in reverse. How many do you think they had trapped in there before Lapis got out.

Dungeon Meshi (NEW): I've been watching dungeon meshi in the dub. idk when i stopped reading meshi but i remember that senshi is a great man and the food makes me hungry. dungeon meshi is a very fun dnd story because they're hungry and cooking monsters. i like the narrator too this is a good story, simple, full of whimsy bump of chicken is there (makes it automatically good) and its also a finished story too and maybe we'll get to see the entire thing play out i'll keep up with the releases as they come out or maybe watch 2 episodes per day instead of in one sitting. But I'm not calling it delicious in dungeon .
Continuing: Possibly naruto. I haven't started the runaway sasuke arc yet. Eventually I'll end up hitting filler hell, so that'll be something I do while grinding out pokemon. The most fun i had with Naruto was watching it with my parent who never watched Naruto but did buy me a Naruto sweater out of association like a parent trying to connect to their kid’s hobbies I started watching Naruto and they popped in when itachi first showed up. Really, majority of February was just progress in Pokemon X. I think I’m at the 4th gym now, then the announcement for Legends ZA came out. If I keep progressing well I can get to Y soon and start my Y nuzlocke.

I just finished watching the Netflix live action avatar on my TV that makes it look way too high quality. I’m too used to the big block TV used for years but it was replaced with idk… an oled tv? You’ll have to forgive me, I have no clue what these terms mean. I've been all over the place since the news about Toriyama. I don't think I've been hit this hard by a famous person's death since Takahashi. There's so much that's owed to Toriyama in so many different genres. I wouldn't be an artist or writer if not for being influenced by DBZ like so many others. Dr. Slump too, like, he was everywhere. Half my favorite franchises wouldn't exist if not for Dragon Quest. God, even Chrono Trigger... insane. So I ended up sticking with Big Green and then hopped to watching some of the movies in the Funimation/Ocean dub. I'm not sure if this helped or not. There was other stuff that was earlier too but I feel like this is too much text for something that's just about me watching shows, huh.

Rabbids Show (Continued)

I needed a completely brainless show to not think and the Rabbids worked on my brain in a way I can only describe as whatever kids go through when they watch cocomelon marathons. Sorry. That’s my only point of reference. I look up from using it as background noise and they’re fighting aliens, turned into zombies, or causing acts of domestic crime. Somehow I like these human characters when normally they’d be the bane of a mascot driven show. I think it’s because they don’t show up that often.

Avatar the Last Airbender Live Action (Completed)

My friend told me to not watch this but I decided to anyways because sometimes I need to listen to my impulses or I start being more weird in different ways like cooking things with hot dog water. Live action shows never seem to capture the correct amount of whimsy, the lighting is whack, but hey, one piece wasn’t that bad so maybe this one could be like. Good? Those were my initial thoughts going into this. Eventually though I realized I had a lot more enjoyment by pretending that this was like, an HD remaster of one of my dad's old movies instead of trying to compare it with the main cartoon. They’re writing this like they know they’re not getting a second season even though this has only covered season 1.

I can’t think of anything I did notable in April outside of watching season 1 of JJK and moving my writing notes from obsidian to standard notes. I uh… played animal crossing new leaf a bit and enjoyed it more than Horizons, but I think I just didn’t like horizons to begin with. I’m never good with games that give me no end goal and too much freedom because then I end up making a mess. There was pokemon but like, I’m always doing that. I also watched some Bakugan…..? I think I mentioned watching all of sandland as it came out? Maybe? I liked watching it. Damn, I’ve really got nothing to talk about this month. All of April (March too) got upturned by IRL stuff that wasn’t accounted for like how it would pretty much upturn everything else in my life but too late to complain about that now I guess... In May, my final project is due, and then I graduate. I’m not happy about it. It feels like I wasted my time at college switching degrees and everyone expects me to be into a job and have a plan for the future when all I get is reject letters. I wish I had done more but things went out of my control during the first few semesters because of the pandemic and then I spent my final semester at home. What a bummer. JKK season 1 I’m watching this for the first time when all I had were the memes and I still have no clue what’s going on, but the fight scenes are cool looking. Knowing what happens in season 2 makes season 1 feel like a story where you, the viewer, know of the impending doom that the characters do not and that they were losers from the very start. Honestly, it’s a world where the main guy is in the wrong genre where if it were any other show a miracle would happen to make things get better and idk, but uh, no, this is a world of evil/ Zero progress on any other show, I kind of just watched JJK and would’ve continued just that but my service only had season 1 up.

On the Pokémon side, I did find a watching order for XY, that’s good. I still have Pokémon TV downloaded and for some bizarre reason it still worked after the shutdown. Because of my tablet refusing to acknowledge this blatant necromancy, I rewatched the Pokémon origins OVA. Going at it from a perspective of +10 years later and not as a part of a retrospective on Pokémon TV makes me wish that they had done more with it and continued later games because now it’s just another thing in the kanto pile. I do like how endearing the red of this one is, he’s just a really excitable clumsy guy with a sense of justice and what not. The fourth episode is still the most hype one battle wise. I still stand by that Green of this world didn’t deserve to be flattened and basically hospitalized while watching his dream crumble in front of his eyes. It’s a good nostalgia trip of basically everyone’s first Pokémon playthrough where they overleveled their starter (like hell I’m calling it first partner) and used it to solo the game.

May Crazy how May started off with me immediately knocking out a bunch of stuff and then it kept rolling until a screeching halt. I doubt I’m going to magically get anything done in between today and June 1st so I’m posting it now.

Completed season 1 of bakugan done

Basically as a standalone it’s okay, it’s not really anything special outside of the select episodes where the characters are tested and the whole Alice subplot It’s quintiessential Saturday morning cartoon you put on while you do something else because they kinda just do whatever during battles Wakfu Season 1

Wakfu is a show made in flash that’s uses MMO terms because it used to be one and just expects you to know things and I was just thrown into it It’s made on flash and is really well made like I wasn’t expecting some of the fight scenes and it gets better as it goes season 1 finale locked in FR English dub is so so but I like it; reminds me of the NG sounding voices anyways Tristepinne was a real one It’s very clearly anime inspired and wears it’s influence on its sleeve The main villain commits centuries of atrocities to go back in time only for it to fail and only give him the episodes run time which is insane

Fanmade (pokemon Starter Squad) Starter Squad is a relic of the past but I had no clue what I was expecting during any part so the later half took me out Made clearly during brawl time with the models, episodes get longer and length and more complex in plot

Madness Combat in Real time I literally was enraptured by this series developing in real time with better fight scenes every time, also the story going with the villain being like “I forgot about the dead clown” leading to the characters going to hell was certainly a choice.

On going

Bakugan Season 2 I started season 2 but didn’t really care much at the start outside of the one guy who is in this one pokemon fangame i meant to get to but didn’t yet Season 2 really does not want to give the main cast their dues, did the writers fire the only woman they had or something because like why is Alice not here smoking the aliens she can teleport Ninjago dragons rising has that Netflix money I’m assuming it assumes that you haven’t watched the rest of the show but I already watched through a bunch of the earlier seasons (and posted it too.) When are they gonna start streaming monkie kid

Haikyuu Season 1 Local shonen/mahou shoujo watcher watches sports anime and is pleasantly surprised to see that somehow all of the power level stuff translates over to “how hard can this guy hit a volleyball” incredibly easily I like it because it is a nice change of pace and it is funnily mundane. I have no idea why all these people online keep calling the grey haired guy a war criminal and I’m afraid to find out.

September to December (2023)

This is the only time I ever mention food on this?!

Food I did get the wawa pizza to share but it was bad and sucked and shouldn’t have been $14. I got a big thing of iced tea instead of water and I already know the health consequences will be dire but variety’s the spice of life and my breakfasts were boring AF (I say this and then immediately a few days later I’m starting to try a big exercise routine. Hmm.) Not even a media moment but I ate a burger with cream cheese on it and everyone around me was like “cream cheese???” And it was actually somewhat good tasting. It was like a bagel.

Naruto has also fried my brain because In a way I’m in a matchup between my brain being shonens most braindead reader/ watcher versus “it could be deep” theory crafting for a 20+ year old franchise and my brain is actively picking apart pieces of the show I don’t like and wiping them out. I haven’t even gotten to Shippuden. Bakugan is one of those shows I am clearly not paying attention to fully. It’s a filler show I watch between death note despite the fact if I’d pay attention fully I’d finish death note already but that one’s more of a slow burn I like bakugan for nostalgia’s sake, which is why I’m only watching season 1 because the other seasons lack the characters I liked in season 1 rewatching rwby. Rooster teeth might’ve officially removed the seasons from their channel but reuploaded work faster than the devil.

Death Note (10/37) I can’t believe madhouse made this 15 years ago and it’s still really nice looking. I watch it in intervals of 2 days. 2 days works out because then I gotta let it set in like “how’s light gonna get out of this situation?” Death note is very funny because light seriously would’ve been bagged multiple times but the people are fumbling. Just give him a fake name. Like, he’s only winning because the author is letting him, both FBI agents failed, but even the cameras were noted because of the Shinigami. Light wouldn’t have been bagged if he yerked off while looking at the mags or if he wrote fanfictin or something that’s not as obvious as freaking scorn mags. Come on. Write poetry or draw crazy crap or something, get some hobbies. He took a potato chip and he ate it, but why couldn’t he just have changed up his routine and studied at the library or something. I’ve gotten to the part where L meets him in real life, and I kind of like L. He’s a little oomfie core. I can’t believe the tennis episode literally happens immediately after L gets introduced. Honestly, it would be really funny if the show abruptly changed to Light going back to playing tennis. To win, one must attack. And that’s the kind of person Light is, he’s never on the defense, he always has to do something scheme wise. I didn’t know his dad had a heart attack that wasn’t death note related, that was kind of crazy. Then Misa showed up. Maybe. The tapes seem like a thing someone other than Light would do.

Baki Hanma (season 1) The prison escaping arc is certainly a way to go for season 1, along with Oliver and his wife and Baki being a little bit of an asshole, it was kind of a bit of a turn around from the first part of the series being like a boss rush. There’s kind of not much compelling to keep watching it because I dunno, I liked the structure of the other more, this one has a lot less chaos going on. Like the first half was better because it was Baki’s training arc with doing dumb crap like fighting grasshoppers and his dad breaking into the military too just to go swimming. Baki got his own devils face though, that was cool. I think Yujiro Hanma could defeat a T-Rex, is that when the pickle arc happens? Oh, it’s happening now. As in. The plot of season 2, judging by the new opening scenes.

As for November, I could continue with the stuff I said I would do in October, or come up with new things. I ended up rewatching RWBY and I want to do so until the end of volume 3 or however much I can find without having to use the site, and Pokemon Horizons looks pretty good. Could also consider watching more movies instead of just leaving them stuck on my bucket list, but I gotta be in the mood… its different watching a show than a movie in some areas.

Steven’s Universe: After years of not watching Steven universe and seeing the fandom implode on itself I decided to start watching Steven universe for the anniversary I have two very simple rules in mind when engaging with certain types of media Don’t listen to the opinions of Youtubers Never argue over children’s cartoons I’m having fun, why did people hate this? It’s got all the anime Lo-fi aesthetic, powerful ladies, narrative lore stuff, does it get severely mid or something? I know I got wrapped up in the critic wave where everyone said it was bad so I thought it was bad but I’m going back to 1 now because I think the tumblr Steven media critics moved to some other children’s cartoon which likely has some nightmarish fandom the likes of which I’ve never seen before. I had a genshin section here but I'm cutting it out.

RWBY: Years ago, I said that RWBY was like an anime adaption of a JRPG where the story goes “cool school, blows up, time to collect macguffins and fight god” and that was like around volume 6 or so, which is when I decided to stop watching, mostly because the episodes moved to RT’s website. Now, I did manage to watch volume 9 as a stand-alone but the end result pretty much made me go “why did I like this show again?” Because it had been so long that I forgot. Starting off with the latest when I hadn’t seen at least two of them wasn’t the best idea, but rather than go back to them, I decided to reset and rewatch the entire show step by step. Not like I have anything better to do with my time.

Scott pilgrim takes off assumes you’ve watched at least one Scott pilgrim thing which makes it very hard to talk about it so I’ll say it’s a good “what if” exploration of the characters and nothing else. If anything I can say it’s like a new Amanaguchi album came with this animation* *people online debate if this is a cartoon or anime considering that it’s based on a Canadian comic but it’s made in a Japanese studio so… I listened to a lot of takeo onuki’s works this week. One of the city pop artists. It was good.

There is probably a large subsection of people who have never seen the original dragon ball and that’s a shame. They don’t know about goku’s looney tunes nonsense with extreme violence and how bulma performed a hit and run and immediately shot him. It’s accurate to the intro where it’s their strange little journey. I mean I read the manga but it’s a lot different seeing it move. I heard Goku speak in the subs and I understood him immediately. He is my friend, he is a creature of whimsy, he was a monkey that could shoot laser beams. Forget power scaling, I want a rule of funny that kid goku would do some goofy bullcrap to DBZ enemies. He’d kill cell with a can of raid and a fly swatter I’ve also been watching the big green dub of DBZ which holds an equal amount of absurdity but that’s because it’s infamous for being a bunch of French people speaking English in one take Enraptured by the language choices when speaking of dragon ball terms and how it is. It’s endearing to me. They speak so fast. That’s just how dubs were. The humor is still there. I should continue this into December, like that guy who does dragon ball December months. A very bad holiday: The OG bad guys I liked but this one was clearly children’s special for the holidays. Ninjago— the shorter episode seasons (11 minute runs) Maybe I should’ve started at the original but I was like whatever they’ll explain the plot Next thing I know Zane’s been trapped in a dimension and became an emperor and Cole’s fighting a yeti I’m watching it like what??? Huh??? The next season I watched had them in the gamer dimension and the one I’m currently watching has… the sky… world? I dont know.

The Endless Summer (May to August 2023)

Thoughts

Media Myhouse.Wad: That doom MOD has been pretty funny to watch turn from a “ohhh spooky mystery” to “these guys are using the lawnmower mod to speedrun it” I finished Glitter Force (The Smile Season.) The juxtaposition of smile Precure episodes: - Joker has trapped the girls in the hell dimension - Lily wants to buy a gundam robot - These two episodes were back to back They basically cut like all of Sunny’s episodes and I feel like the show is like, good for an entry way point but my main problem (not even with the dub) is that like half these episodes could’ve been solved if the girls just fired their attack at the start of when the villains show up instead of waiting for the clown guy to do their gimmick. At the very least the dub voices were nice to listen to but when I started watching the dokidoki version I was immediately distracted by how Mana sounds like Jimmy Neutron (they have the Same VA) I’m starting to think the best way to watch a Precure season is to marathon the entire thing so that way you don’t have an entire year’s time frame to dislike the shows handling and efficiently not analyze much of it at all so that people aren’t inevitably disappointed by a children’s cartoon.

Rugrats season 1, where I have two singular thoughts in my head the entire time. : These babies have caused so much property damage because the parents are neglectful—brain cell A. Isn’t this supposed to be funny to be watching them do wanton chaos though— brain cell B I’ve been watching Death Note, the dub. Unfortunately netflix subs mean I don’t get Keikaku and dub only makes me think of Lan because of the battle network run I only know this show through meme osmosis. Watched the entrietry of Gudetama, the show where an egg becomes the prime minister for a single episode. Salt Fat Acid Heat: I’ve only watched the salt and fat episode so far and I keep getting insanely jealous. I wish to eat pesto.

The entirety of glitter force doki doki. Is Mana a Mary sue discussion has been beaten to the ground so I don’t care to even bring it up, but the GF version kinda highlights how her friendship with Regina kind of takes over the facets of her friendship(s) over the other girls (which isnt helped by how many episodes centered on the other girls got cut outside of the ace arc).

Ben 10: I only have memories of Kevin as a tall person who was fascinated with his car. Seeing small Kevin was bizarre. I liked 1 and 2 so far more than 3. Not as interested in Gwen centric episodes aside from like. The lucky girl ones. Because watching two kids consistently squabble is the low point vs Ben using his aliens to do petty crap Again I blame the nature of binge watching because I probably would’ve enjoyed season 3 and 4 had I not marathoned the entire show but I feel like the direction was slightly changed for season 3 and 4 to be like, more aliens! Or maybe an episodic show with not much continuity leads itself to being formulaic and I’m just not as engaged in the formula as with the first two. I am putting far too much stock into a Y7 Show.

Sonic Prime: I don’t remember my review for season 1, but season 2 was good in some spots and if something’s not memorable to me I flat out forget it. Highlights this season were shadow and the show’s take on metal Sonic. Will they (the shards) coexist or not is the great question season 3 has to answer because it’s like, do you erase the individuals to make them their originals again or do you erase the parts to make them whole? The funny thing is that this is the third media I’ve seen that has the trolley problem of “if these people are split into different parts is it worth it to erase the parts to make them the originals again” within the span of 2 years. The other two fandoms still argue over their media’s takes on it. The Sonic fandom tends to argue over many things so it’s kind of irrelevant.

Magi Season 1: I tend to sometimes have like a critical standpoint on things that are clearly not made with me (a black person) in mind but this show makes me overthink whenever I’m not watching it because I feel like if this was a more recent show that it would attract the type of insane discourse that makes me turn off my brain. For starters since the show takes influence from the Arabian nights this would stand to have like… anyone who isn’t white* (as in Japanese and not White as in Western) looking, but then it fails at that point by only having a handful be anything other than that aside from one of the season 1 villains who is also a banker stereotype. Plus there’s also the stereotype of having more heavy weighted people just be villains. Then there’s also the slave subplot which is also primary to the tertiary character but then when adding the above… , I have to consider the factor of “do I really want the only black person in this anime’s entire plot line to revolve around being a former slave” and my answer is “not really.” So whenever the show’s focus isn’t on the world building of the magic system or the bond between the two leads it’s kind of failing on a cultural viewpoint (yes it also has the stereotypical outfits). Ignoring that it’s mostly just a mid ... it's not a shonen because of how much the main character is a total perv. What's the category above shonen? Seinen.

Watching: I was supposed to be sticking to watching just shorter shows like Sonic Boom and watching movies instead of getting heavily invested in anything but then somehow I’ve found myself watching the Astro Boy 2003 dub. I wanted to watch the subs but I don’t want to pay a subscription but I also don’t want to watch it in a poor quality. If I watch around 3-6 episodes I can probably get it finished before vacation ends. Sonic Boom was started in August… 100 episodes? Some jokes are actually funny. Teeniepig is basically just precure and I have no idea how I ended up watching it Shorter time per episode= more episodes. I wish streaming services had a shuffle episode button. Like a large majority of Astro boys dubbed episodes within two days. That’s the fixation man, since I couldn’t even get through Death Note even with me watching it once a day I dropped it in 2 episodes The final episode is completely butchered, no going around that, but for the most over it’s serviceable unless you’re particularly nitpicky like with Atlas but like, the whole point of that was parental neglect even if the dub made him a robot instead of a human it still counts because his treatment was still the same It’s a beautiful show, which is why I ended up using so much of it for the screenshot parts

Mech Cadets was on Netflix and I watched the entire 10 episode course in two days because I have zero control when it comes to watching where it either drags our or I watch it all in one go. Every time I see a mecha show based in the West I end up going “Is this gonna try to reference Eva?” But that’s because I have zero referential ability. Mech cadets is quite a generic name though, they couldn’t have given it like a cool subtitle like Mech Cadets Ride Out with some exclamation points. (EDIT: the full name in the comic is Mech Cadet Yu, which works far better.) Kind of funny how my instinct whenever I see an bike in a western production is that I think the Akira bike slide is going to happen next (Wasn’t expecting the old men fight though,) I can probably retire the video section since I have the photos to show off the music I listen to with the full name in case YouTube pulls a fast one and deletes it and I’ll outright forget what it was. I like how I was like “I’m not getting invested into anything in the tail end of summer so I won’t be distracted when I need to study” and now I’m watching Baki the grappler because I saw the obama scene Sonic OVA: That was a very cool 2 episode movie with neat scenes and fight scenes. I like how knuckles has a hat.

Old Media Log (Jan-April 2023)

Blah.

I watched glitter force’s first season (smile precure’s power rangers esque dub on netflix.) I will be posting screenshots of that in full because it was. a lot. My gurren lagaan rewatch got cut since netflix keeps pulling off shows I was still watching!

Dropped: God Troubles Me (Bilibili). …show kind of peaked at the 12th episode which was the finale of the 1st season, but some of the “humor” turned me off… (re: fat jokes), then season 2 was boring enough to make me drop it (this also might’ve been sleep deprivation.)

Sailor Moon Crystal (in the dubs): every time i think of this show I think of watching the debut but it’s been years, so it’s time for me to move on and actually watch it since I don’t have crunchyroll or Hulu to watch the original. It’s good looking on Netflix since they have the blu ray version and I’ve never gotten to season 2 so… shrugging. Maybe it’ll get better. It’s a more forward manga adaption but sometimes i wish that Sailor V got an adaption instead. I watched the entire production of sailor moon crystal and it was like. “okay.” I’d probably rather watch the original 200 episode course because after a while I just started listening to the audio of it like it was a drama CD. The netflix thing used the blu ray updated versions so seeing this thing manifest on my screen brought back bad memories. The artstyle changed a bit for season 3 and the season 4 movie onwards. Yes precure and Maho Girls are getting a new season! Yay! Cure mofurun has apparently been banned from being used outside of the movie, which sort of blows.

Started off with RWBY volume 9, got to the cliffhanger with old man Jaune and it’s looking like it’ll be a good volume! I’ll likely watch the rest of it afterwards. I’m still wondering what happened to Neo though, she kind of just showed up in a single episode and then left. the Bulk of this week was me watching the mega man NT warrior marathon, the dubbed one, with the twitch chat.

Capcom releasing an official dub version of the battle network show on their YouTube and then apparently putting in the Japanese subs because they lost one of the episodes (the first one!) is incredible

I'm in April now, Cool.
(Previous post watch referred to RWBY.) Somehow everything did manage to get wrapped up in a single episode, but did they have to keep the haircut the same way…? I liked the ponytail better.
