Idk, should I put images for earlier parts...? Nah, I've got a lot on the site already...
YouTube has been recommending some pretty good artists to me like Yocrapaka Mihara but that’s mostly because I’ve gotten back into listening to Xref Xpec remixes.
Last time in December I watched olive the other reindeer by myself because no one else had any interest in it. Along with that, this January I finished Ninjago. Well, the first part, not dragons rising. It certainly had varying quality by the end of it, my favorite one was probably everything before Crystallized, that one kinda fell flat. I’ve continued Death Note and I’ve hit the Yotsuba arc. It’d be kinda funny if the note kept getting passed around like a hot potato but I know that’s not how it works so I’m just waiting for the pieces of the dominos that have been set up by this business to completely fall apart. I’ve also continued Baki’s second season but I’m starting to guess that the plot as a whole is about the futility of trying to be the strongest, because otherwise it’s like, why exactly are they fighting this caveman. For clout? It makes no sense, but it’s engaging regardless.
Pokemon TV is shutting down so i was going to watch a bunch of the short stuff they put there only to lose interest from watching generations and all of the player characters from what I’ve seen so far were just the boy characters. I watched Origins as well, so now I know that Charizard propoganda has been there since the beginning. Mega evolution being there is quite funny in hindsight since it got cut. I’ll probably continue to watch everything from TV before March since the only worthwhile things are the shorts even though I know they’re all probably on YouTube or something. I also redownloaded pokemon cafe and I’ve gotten into masters ex, which I know is a terrible decision because I’m wired to hate Gacha. It’s also made me realize that I barely care about any human character in pokemon outside of a select few because they’ll be like “look, its the gym leader from this generation or this player character in a cool costume!” And I’ll be like “who gives a crap. Can I summon Red or another Blue (guy) yet?” Never in my life did I think that people had like, actual genuine interest in the human beings because there’s a world of magical creatures that can shoot laser beams.
finished watching Pokemon coincierge as well. It was so cute! A glimpse into a slice of life Pokemon vacation. I do wish it was more than 4 episodes, once I got into it and the ending theme played out I was hooked.
Death Note (2nd half, Yotsuba Arc): They’re too busy doing this detective nonsense when they literally could’ve caught them immediately with Misa’s evidence. Everyone acting in their own interest during the yotsuba arc was pretty interesting because Misa had some independence despite the fact that she’s clearly in the wrong show. Only thing is I think the new intro’s a downgrade. It’s kinda crazy how Light and L did all that stuff and then Light immediately went back to killing. All according to Keikaku. If L spotted the watch then it would’ve been over entirely. I’m on the final stretch with L’s successors now.
Sonic Prime (3rd Season, complete): Did I talk about finishing sonic prime or did it skip by because it was kinda nothing but fight scenes and I didn’t care much. Nine is a compelling character but I do not understand how the dimensional stuff works and I don't think the show wants me to either.
Baki Hanma (2nd Season, complete): to think baki would end with yujiro cooking his son invisible food after the insanity of the caveman thing. yujiro hanma would just flex his muscles really hard to break glass and that would work he’s like the embodiment of total masculine toxicicity except this entire show has never had a moment of awareness except with the caveman and the big scientist guy being like “this entire thing is stupid”. these are the most grotesque men i’ve ever seen this entire premise is stupid and yet it is so compelling because the entire show is solely about a bunch of overpowered weirdoes screwing around. the plot twist that this has always been the cycle of violence with yujiro’s dad and baki’s grandfather makes it kinda crazy huh. this show is baffling because everything in or out of context still make no damn sense. sea king retsu became a boxing champion because the caveman cannibal ate his leg like what…?
Pluto: I finally started watching Pluto after having it on my list for so long. It’s an interesting take on the greatest robot arc from the OG, seeing everyone drawn in more realistic art styles was a bit jarring. This shows all sorts of crazy with the murder mystery and the evil robot and the war and the racism but that was all in the original too. Reinterpretation and pulling from the source material really works.
Wakfu (To Continue):W akfu was on here at one point and I got to the part where it turns out the main character is a dragon and the dragon mentor fought a time lord and it was an entire anime battle animated in flash and it made me go “wow.”
Rabbids (Why am I watching this): Rabbids Invasion is apparently something I’m putting time into watching even though its brainless. I’m kind of endeared to only some Rabbids who manage to experience remorse instead of being crapheads.
Miscellaneous: Infinite Craft just reminds me of little alchemy. RPGmaker XP was free so I got it, too bad I have no knowledge on how to code anything and it all evaporated after school.
TPP 10th anniversary: How in the world has it been 10 years. They did gens past crystal? There was way more extensive lore to it? What the heck. I’m old.I’m in there too. We’re just ants on a keyboard attempting to beat Pokémon
Death Note Completed: I finished it after a few months in between after the Yotsuba arc and compiled my notes in a coherent summary. Good boy light with the evil eyes is so dissonant. Death note is a pretty crazy show. Is the main character in conflict over needing to kill his sister? Is it because things have been so out of control? And the answer is, Light has no clue what to do in this situation where his family is in a vulnerable position but so is his entire plan and that’s an interesting angle, right? I wonder what his dad would do about it all. Then they uh. Launched the death note through a missile and I thought “what is this show doing.” Obviously having the death note in the hands of that one guy doesn’t seem like the best idea, but I guess there’s not much that can be done now. Why exactly was all this notebook swapping with this new shinigami thing again…It’s a little weird
Dude light’s dad is dying and his first reaction is “you should’ve killed him” and was it because he lost the gamble with the shinigami eyes. Death note is good because it’s at a time where Light watches his dad die I’m like “was it genuine? Did he mean it?” And its that complexity that makes it good. Light’s sure in metaphorical hell at the moment. Kira’s making a dystopian internet hell. Did they all just forget Misa was Kira at one point in the show. The TV special guy has become consumed by the drive to get huge ratings. Matsuda is flaky and some people would be flaky in this situation. Light’s lost the plot. His sister is broken, his father dead, but he’s too invested. And now I think I get why the second theme song is so messy, because light’s a whole mess. The stair symbolism was him walking to be at the top of the world but he can’t do that. He’s going to hell. He’s gonna die. I just wish Misa wouldn’t die but chances are she probably will since she’s only loyal to Light.
Note. I don’t know what happens minus the fact that Light and L were dead, I came to the show knowing that.
Conslusion Notes: I was incredibly distracted by the English VA for light because I had watched a show where the VA was the same voice so I just associated Light with that guy instead (It was Lan from the NT Warrior dub). Misa deserves to be in a better show because Light hates women. Mikami kind of feels like the writer had no clue where to go with the story so he just made up a new guy to handle the plot. The notebook swapping thing is contrived. Light’s not a good person but he likely would’ve just been a regular guy if not for the notebook allowing him to work with his worst most judgmental vices but people online saying it’s the fault of the notebook is stupid, he’d basically do the same thing if he had a gun and then he’d try to hide the gun. I think I liked the Yotsuba arc more but I liked Near for finally being like “okay fine let’s just get this over with”. Light’s not a tragic figure at all, he just decided to be judge jury and executioner where the judicial system was supposed to work, like did he actually make sure the people he was killing weren’t just accused or framed for crimes. I’m thinking too much about this. Matsuda being the one to shoot Light is a pretty good moment for him since he was the one who had like the most “normal” perspective out of the task force. His ass is not going to heaven.
Pluto (Completed): covered this last time, now I finished it. it was good. I kinda liked the parts with the detective more than with Atom but that’s because I’m a fan of detective stories. I think it’s a pretty poignant show about how paranoia leads to tragedy and war.
Steven Universe (Continuing): Steven universe is a show about horrible memories. Im not a fan of the beach town people episodes either. Remember that episode of gravity falls where dipper has a paper copy of himself that horribly died. It’s kinda crazy how this show had years of lying to Steven and Greg about Rose and her character development went in reverse. How many do you think they had trapped in there before Lapis got out.
Dungeon Meshi (NEW): I've been watching dungeon meshi in the dub. idk when i stopped reading meshi but i remember that senshi is a great man and the food makes me hungry. dungeon meshi is a very fun dnd story because they're hungry and cooking monsters. i like the narrator too this is a good story, simple, full of whimsy bump of chicken is there (makes it automatically good) and its also a finished story too and maybe we'll get to see the entire thing play out i'll keep up with the releases as they come out or maybe watch 2 episodes per day instead of in one sitting. But I'm not calling it delicious in dungeon .
Continuing: Possibly naruto. I haven't started the runaway sasuke arc yet. Eventually I'll end up hitting filler hell, so that'll be something I do while grinding out pokemon. The most fun i had with Naruto was watching it with my parent who never watched Naruto but did buy me a Naruto sweater out of association like a parent trying to connect to their kid’s hobbies I started watching Naruto and they popped in when itachi first showed up. Really, majority of February was just progress in Pokemon X. I think I’m at the 4th gym now, then the announcement for Legends ZA came out. If I keep progressing well I can get to Y soon and start my Y nuzlocke.
I just finished watching the Netflix live action avatar on my TV that makes it look way too high quality. I’m too used to the big block TV used for years but it was replaced with idk… an oled tv? You’ll have to forgive me, I have no clue what these terms mean. I've been all over the place since the news about Toriyama.
I don't think I've been hit this hard by a famous person's death since Takahashi. There's so much that's owed to Toriyama in so many different genres. I wouldn't be an artist or writer if not for being influenced by DBZ like so many others. Dr. Slump too, like, he was everywhere. Half my favorite franchises wouldn't exist if not for Dragon Quest. God, even Chrono Trigger... insane.
So I ended up sticking with Big Green and then hopped to watching some of the movies in the Funimation/Ocean dub. I'm not sure if this helped or not. There was other stuff that was earlier too but I feel like this is too much text for something that's just about me watching shows, huh.
Rabbids Show (Continued)
I needed a completely brainless show to not think and the Rabbids worked on my brain in a way I can only describe as whatever kids go through when they watch cocomelon marathons.
Sorry. That’s my only point of reference. I look up from using it as background noise and they’re fighting aliens, turned into zombies, or causing acts of domestic crime. Somehow I like these human characters when normally they’d be the bane of a mascot driven show. I think it’s because they don’t show up that often.
Avatar the Last Airbender Live Action (Completed)
My friend told me to not watch this but I decided to anyways because sometimes I need to listen to my impulses or I start being more weird in different ways like cooking things with hot dog water.
Live action shows never seem to capture the correct amount of whimsy, the lighting is whack, but hey, one piece wasn’t that bad so maybe this one could be like. Good? Those were my initial thoughts going into this. Eventually though I realized I had a lot more enjoyment by pretending that this was like, an HD remaster of one of my dad's old movies instead of trying to compare it with the main cartoon.
They’re writing this like they know they’re not getting a second season even though this has only covered season 1.
I can’t think of anything I did notable in April outside of watching season 1 of JJK and moving my writing notes from obsidian to standard notes. I uh… played animal crossing new leaf a bit and enjoyed it more than Horizons, but I think I just didn’t like horizons to begin with. I’m never good with games that give me no end goal and too much freedom because then I end up making a mess. There was pokemon but like, I’m always doing that. I also watched some Bakugan…..?
I think I mentioned watching all of sandland as it came out? Maybe? I liked watching it. Damn, I’ve really got nothing to talk about this month.
All of April (March too) got upturned by IRL stuff that wasn’t accounted for like how it would pretty much upturn everything else in my life but too late to complain about that now I guess... In May, my final project is due, and then I graduate. I’m not happy about it. It feels like I wasted my time at college switching degrees and everyone expects me to be into a job and have a plan for the future when all I get is reject letters. I wish I had done more but things went out of my control during the first few semesters because of the pandemic and then I spent my final semester at home. What a bummer.
JKK season 1
I’m watching this for the first time when all I had were the memes and I still have no clue what’s going on, but the fight scenes are cool looking. Knowing what happens in season 2 makes season 1 feel like a story where you, the viewer, know of the impending doom that the characters do not and that they were losers from the very start. Honestly, it’s a world where the main guy is in the wrong genre where if it were any other show a miracle would happen to make things get better and idk, but uh, no, this is a world of evil/
Zero progress on any other show, I kind of just watched JJK and would’ve continued just that but my service only had season 1 up.
On the Pokémon side, I did find a watching order for XY, that’s good. I still have Pokémon TV downloaded and for some bizarre reason it still worked after the shutdown.
Because of my tablet refusing to acknowledge this blatant necromancy, I rewatched the Pokémon origins OVA. Going at it from a perspective of +10 years later and not as a part of a retrospective on Pokémon TV makes me wish that they had done more with it and continued later games because now it’s just another thing in the kanto pile. I do like how endearing the red of this one is, he’s just a really excitable clumsy guy with a sense of justice and what not. The fourth episode is still the most hype one battle wise. I still stand by that Green of this world didn’t deserve to be flattened and basically hospitalized while watching his dream crumble in front of his eyes. It’s a good nostalgia trip of basically everyone’s first Pokémon playthrough where they overleveled their starter (like hell I’m calling it first partner) and used it to solo the game.
May
Crazy how May started off with me immediately knocking out a bunch of stuff and then it kept rolling until a screeching halt.
I doubt I’m going to magically get anything done in between today and June 1st so I’m posting it now.
Completed
season 1 of bakugan done
Basically as a standalone it’s okay, it’s not really anything special outside of the select episodes where the characters are tested and the whole Alice subplot It’s quintiessential Saturday morning cartoon you put on while you do something else because they kinda just do whatever during battles
Wakfu Season 1
Wakfu is a show made in flash that’s uses MMO terms because it used to be one and just expects you to know things and I was just thrown into it
It’s made on flash and is really well made like I wasn’t expecting some of the fight scenes and it gets better as it goes season 1 finale locked in FR English dub is so so but I like it; reminds me of the NG sounding voices anyways
Tristepinne was a real one
It’s very clearly anime inspired and wears it’s influence on its sleeve
The main villain commits centuries of atrocities to go back in time only for it to fail and only give him the episodes run time which is insane
Fanmade (pokemon Starter Squad)
Starter Squad is a relic of the past but I had no clue what I was expecting during any part so the later half took me out Made clearly during brawl time with the models, episodes get longer and length and more complex in plot
Madness Combat in Real time
I literally was enraptured by this series developing in real time with better fight scenes every time, also the story going with the villain being like “I forgot about the dead clown” leading to the characters going to hell was certainly a choice.
On going
Bakugan Season 2
I started season 2 but didn’t really care much at the start outside of the one guy who is in this one pokemon fangame i meant to get to but didn’t yet Season 2 really does not want to give the main cast their dues, did the writers fire the only woman they had or something because like why is Alice not here smoking the aliens she can teleport
Ninjago dragons rising
has that Netflix money I’m assuming it assumes that you haven’t watched the rest of the show but I already watched through a bunch of the earlier seasons (and posted it too.)
When are they gonna start streaming monkie kid
Haikyuu Season 1
Local shonen/mahou shoujo watcher watches sports anime and is pleasantly surprised to see that somehow all of the power level stuff translates over to “how hard can this guy hit a volleyball” incredibly easily
I like it because it is a nice change of pace and it is funnily mundane. I have no idea why all these people online keep calling the grey haired guy a war criminal and I’m afraid to find out.
