Game Log

Gamers. This is where any video game from the media log page is going. Aside from pokemon, which will continue to get it's own seperate section. Things that were from 2023 prior to making the pokemon gameplay log will remain on this page. Some of these games have already been dropped which leaves this bouncing all over and chronology isn't a large priority currently. Some games have been movbed to their own pages as well.

Spring Gaming

This is the era of random game purchases on steam. I bought peggle and chuzzle, which is far more important because my internet archive versions didn’t work The era of the backlog is upon me, because my gaming hobby has said that they’ve made no more room for me. It’s not the fact it’s an $80 game as standard when games were priced higher in the past, it’s the fact it’s an $80 game with DLC and microtransactions and then translating that to other countries with the USD rate goes astronomically higher. Blow it out your exhaust pipe, I’m not buying that!
I got a switch carry on case so I stop just leaving my switch in a random bag all the time It’s a Kirby themed one, got it on a discount. Feels nice to get things made on a deal for a price way lower than what they’re asking. This was like a $40 to $15 drop. The only places that still sell 3ds stuff are probably overpriced retro stores that I don’t live anywhere near so I had to go order a Smart Case which actually managed to fit everything a lot nicer then the random bag I had shoved all my 3ds stuff into. Minus my OG scratched up DS that no longer functions. I kinda forgot I had shovel knight as a 3ds game here. Zoned the heck out listening to Yoshi’s island music instead of playing Yoshi’s island Kirby blowout blast is fun as a remake of dl1. Didn’t get all perfect medals though. Meh. I got thrown off by drop shadows. Maybe up next I’ll play extra epic yarn.
Recently started replaying Kirby 64 on delta. You know it’s a pretty cute game and chill aesthetics wise and the dl3 sequel and definitely one of those games I try to tend to 100% to completion since it’s required. DL2 and 3 though… maybe, maybe not. I’ve gotten up to rock star, I find it kind of interesting how the cast is sort of like previous dl3 bosses (counting Ado and Adeline the same character here since that was debated for a bit but it feels like Hal wants her to be the same now versus their previous answers) and some dl3 bosses also return (whispys always been a boss mainstay, and as I wrote this I completely forgot the name of the Orca (was it Acro?)) At one point all the animal friends were supposed to be playable too but I guess they never got developed for it. Star allies sort of brought the idea back but you know how sometimes people enjoy a thing and you wish you could enjoy it the same way too? That’s how I feel about Star allies because I didn’t have much fun with it past my first playthrough so I don’t replay it as much.
I’ve still been playing 64 but way slower since I keep getting distracted in rock star. It’s making me a bit annoyed how the solution seems to be “bring in an unrelated ability combo from a few levels ago”. DL3 and 2 also did that so it’s just a skill issue on my end. I like how in Kirby dreamland 3 and 64 there’s two giant pyramids with black backgrounds in them. Ancients? Haltman co? I hope it’s never answered tbh, I like the ambiguous mystery Kirby has sometimes.
Also, moved a few RPGs from one spot to the other alt site. Eventually I'll stop mentioning that.

What about completed games?

Uh. I’m kinda busy with looking for work and things and driving place to place so the games are more to have fun versus getting them done.
I screwed up a bit too… I bought chuzzle, and hopelessly became some sort of chuzzle fiend. Every time I opened my computer instead of coding in my free time or playing longer games I’d be playing chuzzle or bejeweled like some kind of old Facebook mom when they still had regular games on Facebook.

Last of Winter 2025 Less of a slow update and more of absolutely nothing happened.
Winter 2025

Here's my new categories going forwards, I'm making it like the microblog monthly. PC/Computer

Desktop survivors is like vampire survivors but inspired by the windows OS. Even though it's a demo, I got prettty sucked into playing it for a bit. 3DS

I wish tomodachi life was still holding interest to me at this point, I'm considering removing a chunk of the cast and just putting back in older OCs because I put too many new OCs that I haven't developed as much and it's a big hassle trying to remember them all since they were mostly names and concepts in my mind.

Switch

I've switched (hehe) over to mostly just playing the virtual console standard subscription exclusive games at this point, which means pretty much my lineup for games has now become stuff from the NES and SNES. I'm playing through Mario 1 for the first time after only ever watching playthroughs and speedruns. Mario's so slippery in this game when you have the run button going. So far I've gotten up to world 2 and got knocked over by the cheep cheep bridge, so when I hit the boss level I fell immediately into a pit while trying to get a mushroom. I didn't know if you got hit out of mushroom mode and took a fire flower you wouldn't get fire powers, that was a bit surprising.

Mobile

Still playing through Transformers: Earth Wars. The time gate for upgrading buildings is getting more and more absurdly long, I read in the chat that some of the upgrades take 16 days!

December, Steam Winter Sales Only a few days left until 2025 but this update will probably be in 2025 for what it’s worth (FWIW).
Gaming wise I’ve sort of dropped off my delta playthroughs off the face of the earth and have been focused primarily on finishing up my final run in Galar with my monotype normal run. I’ll post a big paragraph session on that.
My switch in review is out, most played things were animal crossing following that brief reset, pokemon sword (not counting my monotype runs since those were on alt accounts), and pokemon cafe? I guess. I kind of forgot I downloaded that, every time I download it I stop after a certain point because even though everything’s cute after a while it all gets to a point where it’s like “you have to do these events with a team and level all your guys and do all these things” which again, is not the thing for me.
Mobile wise, lately I’ve been playing transformers earth wars, which I’ve already said is a clash of clans type game. I joined the decepticon faction and pretty much have spent most of the game currently getting only autobot units due to a weird bug that was patched. I’ve been spending less time in the main campaigns which seems to be about some kind of enigma of combination and more time doing PvP raids and building upgrades. I’ve recently unlocked the mission feature, which means that there’s more time locked things but thankfully it lets my units level up faster so I don’t have to spend all the time rotating them out in the menu to do slow exp leveling. I don’t know everyone I’ve been summoning but the dialogue is somewhat witty and there’s an option to make the game’s music like that of the OG G1 cartoon which is a delight. All the characters summoned too get a character description which explains who they are and a little room where you can watch them transform and when Soundwave transforms he starts playing The Touch. I’m so glad I got into transformers.

Since I had a bit of free time and a brand new gift card, I also went to check out the steam sales. Last year, I bought Minecraft and a handful of sonic games plus a few other games I haven’t gotten to.

I saw the need for speed games were on sale but the EA app doesn’t work sometimes. A lot of things on sale on front page were open world ish. There’s also the factor that my PC is kind of Garbo so I probably shouldn’t buy a game that’ll be poorly optimized the entire time. A bunch of other games were also like “get a subscription, we’re cheap but there’s also tons of DLC!” No thanks. I want a game that doesn’t require microtransactions or a stable network. Hop in, play for a bit, hop out. Sometimes if the art style is unappealing I don’t really want it either so sometimes I’m a bit picky.

The helltakers dev made a new game about ghosts. There’s a lot of uhhh… games that are free to play that are all named the same thing and seem to be the same problem plaguing the NSO store of cheaply made slop games. I grabbed a bunch of games that were sitting on my wishlist that were free games, stuff like pinball and a few cozy games. I was also recommended a game called Limbus Company which seems to be an RPG esque game? The reviews didn’t help me that much with that one, apparently Don Quixote is in this game. I had IdleOn for a while but it’s got the problem where if the point of the game isn’t to play it then why should I have it around? Plus I’ve already had my soul sold to cookie clicker. Which was also my steam game of the year because I transferred one of my saves to it and then proceeded to do my usual of leaving it on in the background. Number go up.

Palworld was also on sale for $22. Plus untitled goose game. FP2 and Spark 3 are still on my wishlist and probably will be sitting there a bit longer because I’m still working through playing a few spark mods. I shouldn’t really buy new stuff when I have such a large backlog of stuff i have that I haven’t touched but I really need to get a “hook” into playing stuff or else I drop it and if I lock myself to one thing then I just don’t do it and it starts making me feel a grudge. So the end results was I bought way more last year when I bought a bunch of sonic and rayman games I’m working through.

Should I say working? I should say playing. Working makes it sound like it’s a job and I enjoy games. I’m thinking the solution is way more obvious than I think, because if I play online games primarily through steam and have games that can be played through emulator core libraries… I should get a steam deck.

That is $400 dollars for the cheapest one on the site Western game dev does not optimize for 64 GB size

Janurary 1st update: I'm considering bringing back my 3DS since my switch is just a virtual console machine at this point. My main goal is shorter games and games where I can drop it at any moment if I need to be summoned. So, JRPGs. I've been meaning to go back to fire emblem awakening and miitopia anyways.
Fall Wrap Up I don’t really play video games as often as I say I do huh. Well, well. I’d probably do better if I had a separate game log from my media log but then at that rate I’d be breaking up the site too much… , I’m doing that with my findings page though. Same with the media notes as a whole.
So the only thing I’ve really played outside of pokemon is undertale and that was me getting through the hotlands. I’m thinking of playing through some old Kirby games again. Mostly the 3DS lineup. Maybe extra epic yarn.
I still have a few 3DS games I got that I didn’t start so my resolution next year is to figure out how I’m gonna do that since my brain has been so like, sit down and watch a show brained. To be fair, it’s a lot easier to multitask with a show in the background…
Nintendo Music This doesn’t count as a game. Maybe. I like how I was like “I wish Nintendo wouldn’t have trickle down games for Switch Online” and then they did the same thing for their music app
Well now I can listen to extended Yoshi’s island athletic theme and Snow Bound Land and Stickerbush/brush/Internet Checkpoint without getting YouTube ads in between Did this really require sacrificing GilvaSunner and probably tons of decades old accounts once the copyright bots start rolling in
Do you know how many games probably won’t be on here Hint: it’s a LOT. They’re gonna skip over all the 3rd party songs, smash bros is getting clipped, who knows if the vocal songs will remain No bonus CDs either like the one moonstruck blossom remix Square Enix you cowards release the Live a Live soundtrack onto streaming and quit copyright striking because I sure know that it’s not showing up on NSO anytime soon
They don’t even have the composers credited I’m in a complaining crabby grouchy sort of mood. This selection is kind of hilariously lopsided currently, who put in tomodachi collection when it wasn’t even released outside of Japan Monkey paw curls Mother 3 is gonna be on here too, isn’t it. I can’t wait for people to do their usual reaction to that one song with the absolutely messed up time signature because the boss has an irregular heartbeat. There’s two variants.
The question is how these songs are recorded like, directly from the Nintendo vaults, emulator? I’d probably know if they put more songs in the earlier sections or wait Is this only gonna be songs that are currently on the switch lineup I hope not, let me listen to pokemon themes that aren’t just the switch games.
They have the Wii shop channel theme. This would go hard as a desktop app.
Misc. games

Played some of Yoshi’s Island, one of my favorite SNES Platformers that I would never in my life try to 100%. I already did dreamland 3 100% on the 20th anniversary wii release and 64, not doing those two again because some of those puzzles were OBTUSE. I’ve been playing that one bit by bit on my switch online when I recall I have a switch online. Being a PC gamer pretty much made me have buyer’s remorse for that thing, even my 3DS has been used more often this year (mostly to play pokemon X and miitopia.)

Game wise I’ve mostly just been playing spark the electric jester. I kind of played through a ton of demos before getting the game for the steam winter sales so I breezed through the first chunk of levels. I’m the only person who would note the dialogue changes because of how much of the old demos I played. Now I’m in the mid game and getting completely beat up because I’ve got no clue what I’m doing or where the good abilities are at.

The notes are scattering a bit more now.

Spark the electric jester (Main game cleared): It’s very easy to feel completely lost during the later half of spark as the stages get more loop like and I lose my one ability I use to cheese the game. You’re never taught about the dash parry until Fark campaign. In the end, I feel like I had a better time with the one bugged run where I just had edgy for no reason but that’s on me Spark Mods (To Continue): Choco and float both have different movesets from spark which is a nice touch to make them all feel like different characters in the mods

Spring means I get pinged with many promotional emails and normally zero way to buy them, but for the last few years I've gotten way smarter with birthday/Christmas presents for the purpose of using them all in one go on video games. I don't think I did ever reposted the steam winter sales roundup of stuff I bought, huh. I think I bought way more with the spring sales just on principle. I basically only ask for gift cards for presents these days so I don't have to actually figure out what will be approved of by my family or not as a reasonable and safe purchase. The Winter Sale was uh, the two rayman games, undertale, slay the princess, spark 1, sonic mania and SA2. Sometime in between I got the murder of sonic and RPG Maker XP when it was being given away for free. Also forces and generations but they're not loaded in yet because I don't have room. Uh. I kinda went all out during the spring sales in terms of games. I got the orange box that has half life and portal 1, GMOD, cookie clicker (which I've already succumbed to number brainrot), Celeste (because I sure as hell am not using the epic games store anytime soon), hat in time, henry stickmin, stardew valley, sonic adventure DX and Terraria. Then to top it off, I was gonna buy disco elysium, but then I remembered the controversy, so I ended up buying minecraft instead since I already got terraria. I don't understand why I need a microsoft account if I'm just playing Java, but alright. It kept my demo world, which is pretty neat. I have no clue what I'm doing here. Maybe I'll just wander around. I really shouldn't keep adding more games to play though to my already growing list, so I need to finish undertale and the spark mod experience before picking up anything new(er.)

Gaming (The 3DS Special) I’m more excited over a new bridge in new leaf than new horizons‘s improvements. I guess having all that freedom didn’t really matter to me. I’m postponing the nuzlocke until I either A. Beat the X postgame B. Beat Yokai Watch 2 C. Finish Fire Emblem Awakening, which I dropped like a rock. I want to give it a few months because it is my first official nuzlocke… heh. I still have all my other games too… but that’s a future problem.

2023

Anyways, I’m here to talk about kirby. (Unsure when the date for this is)

Something I’ve genuinely noticed about myself this year is that I have absolutely no abilities to complete things outside of “get it done as much as possible until fatigued” or “put it off as long as possible until it has to be rushed”, which generally sums up my attitude towards schoolwork as well.

Last time I mentioned kirby was on a twitter post where I mentioned playing Kirby’s dreamland DX edition, which adds color to it. I didn’t cover extra mode and I think the next game I moved onto was nightmare in dreamland versus playing just plain old adventure, but this is what I sparsely wrote because of character limit: “ I’ve only ever played Spring Breeze through Super Star and Ultra so going back to the original wasn’t too bad minus the one boss rush. I didn’t know the SHMUPs started this early in the series.” The next few games I played love doing (mini) boss rushes. In particular, I’ve played Nightmare in Dreamland, a bit of the NES kirby’s adventure, Super Star Ultra’s campaigns minus Meta Knightmare, and the Kirby Fangame Invaders from the Dark.

Overall: On the one hand, playing all of them back to back in such a way probably ruined the experience more than I think because my playstyle is so responsive to being able to just smack whatever’s in my way and deal with invincibility frames. That’s what playing mostly super star and ultra does to a person and I guess Star Allies (eh) is to blame as well. I got spoiled.

On the other hand, I think Kirby’s better when it’s not some immensely long puzzle solving grand adventure and is broke into bite size pieces like super star and amazing mirror do. Too bad there’s no games in the series exactly like those two. Nightmare in Dreamland (A bit of adventure as well): I’m not entirely sure what happened here, because either my memories are tricking me or the NES experience is what I remember outside of the game looking a bit… strange? All I had thinking was “why is butter building purple, why does getting hit once take your ability if enemies can swarm you so much, I’m not getting 100 percent.” It’s a bit disappointing to me because outside of a few levels I think the game looks and sounds nice. I moved onto adventure before stopping at around Grape Garden because I think visually adventure is more appealing but going back and having the exact same enemy rush problem where some puzzles require escorting an ability from a different level and dealing with screen lag on top of that made me move on.

Kirby Super Star Ultra Main Campaigns + Extra Modes Minus Meta Knightmare.: I’ve seen these backgrounds in sprite comics all the time. Honestly jarring. Since most of my kirby experience comes from amazing mirror as my first one and the 20th anniversary collection as the second, playing some of the remake games is definitely a new experience for me. I’m honestly a fan of Super Star because of the multiple campaigns and wish more Kirby games would aim for campaigns like the ones in Revenge of Meta Knight and Great Cave Offensive outside of just adding in a new playable character scenario. The closest so far are the timed campaigns in Star Allies, but I haven’t played forgotten land yet so I could be proven entirely wrong by it! Revenge of the king is like some mix between harder spring breeze and the hard mode of the original dreamland, which I didn’t play but I did try to see if it was visually similar. Not exactly since castle lololo never returned, but hey, Kabula’s back!!

Invaders from the Dark (Almost Completed): Anyways, what about that “almost?” I make it a point to try clearing main games as much as possible and going for 100 percent only if I really like something. For invaders of the dark, it’s something I wanted to complete because it’s the only platformer Kirby fangame out there that’s relatively completed and not just a mini game reskin or incomplete, but that final boss. Very uh. Out of place in difficulty. Honestly, Pandora from the last ice level was the same way with the ice attacks that chase Kirby and are indestructible. but my problem with Medeor or whatever is that the game throws you between the shmup and the final boss with no way to practice the 11th hour superpower. In this case I should probably just get good but I really don’t want to. It’s like, in theory, I should probably beat it but simultaneously I looked up the credits on youtube and the ending is done in a gamemaker bubble and the credits are in comic sans so I think it’s okay for me to say I’m not inclined to finish it anytime soon.

Conclusion: The games that try to emulate super star emulate the gameplay and not the actual game which was a bunch of mini games. In that way, super star and ultra still remain unique. But I’d rather play super star than ultra because I played the original first on the 20th anniversary collection and I’m the sound is off to me personally. It seems like in the case of Kirby, hardness comes with being a tiny bit annoying. I can’t count the amount of times I’ve lost an ability due to a bunch of Bronto Burt’s flying on screen at once where it’s a buy one get two deal where they all come at once. That was universal between all games, but I can’t stand it when adventure/nightmare did it because most puzzles required getting hammer or fire from one side of the room to another but I can’t exactly do that if I can’t keep the ability on me for more than one nanosecond. It’s my reaction time versus the enemies precision to snipe me from the room. And don’t get me started on the mini boss brigade that haunted me through nightmare in dreamland and amazing mirror and I’m glad none of them made it to 3D!! I never want to see Phan Phan, the fire lion, or that one dog ever again.

Old Media Log, Jan to April 2023 I started watching Astro Boy based on a recommend IRL and I had zero knowledge going in aside from what IRL person said which I forgot and also stuff from Megaman, but its pretty jarring to hear such a cheery opening and then the next thing is the boy that Astro is based on dying in a car crash. Then the next episode is Frankenstein. What a fascinating time capsule. a single episode of a show on Netflix which I’ve been considering not using since they have that dumb house policy. Going to check out Tubi more.

Misc. Games

Media

Using my switch online subscription the only two things I’ve been doing are playing yoshis island and trying to decorate my animal crossing island. I also redownloaded pocket camp. There’s way more events going on there, it kind of feels like I just play new horizons to decorate it so weeds don’t grow there. I revisited wild world but DS games are made for slower seasons I feel (like fall and winter.) Everyone in advance having a way to cheese bosses aside from sonic has some pretty fun matchups. The Amy campaign being lengthened by me not knowing her full move set was kind of nuts, watching a YouTube video where I saw her use an attack I never used in my game made me lose it (I played her more like a puzzle game since her move set is so different from the other three.) Kirby squeak Squad: Kirby doesn’t need inventory management. But squeak squad is a decent game when you don’t have some YouTuber/influencer telling you the game is mid. It might be mid in my opinion as wells but at least I’m not bored. Playing: I just beat Kirby squeak squad yesterday so I think outside of the canvas curse and other spin-offs I’ve completed all of the pre 3D 2D mainline Kirby games. It’s decent when you don’t have people online in your ear complaining it’s mid. It’s reputation might just be “the one where Kirby goes crazy over a cake” but man if I was going to have a delicious snack and someone stole it I’d be mad too. Outside of that I’ve been working on SMRPG and the SNES Yoshi’s island. Casually I’ve been playing animal crossing and one of those Sanrio mobile games (but not the new one.)
