Every year I slightly restructure this thing I started on tumblr as a companion to the media log
Welcome to thing of the year! Every year since I started a more personal blog on tumblr I’ve done my best to summarize like the year in review in terms of media and things and rank like the best thing.
I'll be moving the media log entries in the interim of my free time, for now I'm just mostly getting templates in.
Stuff started in December is considered as a latecomer and gets its own category.
New category contenders: Favorite artist/genre, OC of the year, Blorbo of the Year
If I can get rid of the footer I probably will. I guess...?
Thing of the Year (2024)
It's a bit early for this compared to my usual summary dates but considering how all over the place my life has been this year I want to get it in now because there's nothing to update currently in the December Latecomers section yet. When I like a thing, I spread it out a lot more than just exclusively finishing it in a marathon.
2024 Edition
Music: It's still Bossa Nova like in the Preliminary Round.
OC/Concept of the Year: I guess actually focusing on making my OCs would probably count? On site I've mostly been pokemon focused but during the fall I got to recall a lot of my older OCs from stuff like Kirby and Sonic and whatnot. It's probably still going to the glitch users solely because the concept of pokemon trainers with stands is ridiculous in a goofy way.
Cartoon Category: It's Transformers, pretty much. I haven't finished up the G1 show but I saw One and I've been still looking at clips of other shows and I'm planning to squeeze in beast wars on my watch list and you can probably predict what the thing of the year is going to be based on how I am about this category already.
Video Games: Unfortunately due to personal circumstances I was barely able to play or finish many games this year and my thing of the year category is reliant on completed things rather than everything, otherwise I'd probably give this one to FF14 as it really was a large part of me getting through college and the pandemic and the lack of being able to play it these days leaves a large hole that I still need to fill.
Live Action: I'm giving this one to mean girls (the OG). I'm kind of surprised it took me that long to watch a movie that was like a fundamental sense of humor for various memes (get in loser, we're going driving.)
Pokemon Category: I think the Pokemon category this year might be going to XY chronicles (and Origins since they’re both from the same period) since I’ve never gotten into XY and it’s a game that I can still enjoy alongside Origins, even if I missed out on the time frame they were properly in they still hold up to play and watch.
Anime: I might've rewatched Madoka and Gurren Lagaan this year but I really also enjoyed Lucky Star, which was a very nice time for a slice of life show.
Unsatisfactory Category: Dissapointment made it seem too harsh, so I said unsatisfactory because while I didn't enjoy it, there's sure to be people that did. Anyways, it goes to Pokemon Sword (base game). I’m gonna be honest, I tried to be as unbiased about it as possible especially with the large gap of time but the main game was so underwhelming that it basically made me reevaluate my position for gameplay logs. I only had so many runs because I was trying to wring it of any entertainment value and if the only way to make it semi interesting is by playing it in an unintended way or by buying the DLC. I mean, I had fun though. It’s just okay.
Blorbos:
Holy shit soundwave is so cool you guys.
Honorable Mentions:
Grimlock is so cool you guys. A dinosaur robot.
I, STARSCREAM, have taken over the blorbo page! Now I am the leader of the deceptions!
He’s fascinating in all aspects even without his later incarnations. He’s always scheming, he’s immortal, he’s trapped himself in a cycle, he’s a fumbler, there’s a writer who literally said he was the favorite just because he was easy to bully, he’s canonically tricked Satan, he’s been banished from heaven, he’s got an absurd kill count for both sides of the conflict.
Yeah I don’t think I’ve had many characters show up as fast as this guy did and also make me drop like everything else in proximity solely so I could watch more stuff just with him in it.
Thing of the Year:
It’s transformers, like, I’ve been in it for a good chunk of the year, right? So I’d definitely define it as my personal thing of the year.
The other thing would’ve had to have been the fact that I’m in the bizzare transitional period of my life as a post graduate. I’ll be honest, it doesn’t really feel real anymore in terms of "this is my life now?" A lot of my life seemed to get completely screwed over by the pandemic personally and I feel as if I am not the age that I actually am in terms of maturity and ability to function as an adult. Add in that a lot of the things I wanted to do I wasn’t able to do at all (learn blender, learn a new language, play more games, finish more things) because all I’ve been doing for months on end is job hunting and all of a sudden I am not happy with the way my life has been and I’m worried for my future.
Future Plans: Aside from updating the media log, diary, gallery, and possibly an OC page, the site will be in maintenance mode longstanding as I want to focus onto more personal endavours rather than just working on my personal site. Examples being the stuff I wasn't able to do this year like blender, learning a language, doing more creative things like writing and actually working on time management. I also want to read more books.
To be continued Category/Might be a December Latecomer: Transformers (Like, all of it? Yes.)
The Batman (the cartoon)
Sword Monotype Normal Run
Undertale
Jem and the Holograms
Various things from Media Log/Unfinished things from previous years
2024 Preliminaries
Complete only
New contenders: Music For previous artists I’d probably just use my Spotify wrapped Like I feel like 2022 would’ve been FreeTempo, EVE, I’d have City Pop and Future Funk as the genres, this Year seems to be Shibuya Kei but also just 80s DiscoTurns out I was wrong, bossa nova won yet again. Joao Gilberto, Yiruma, Stan Getz, and Antonio Carlos Jobim.
Here's everything that I've finished this year that hasn't been in December.
OC/ Concept Of the Year:
Former OCs: Eorzean Guild (FF14), this year seems to be the glitch users (pokemon) considering they caused a large writing restructuring. Out of the ones I've made, I think I like Wisteria the most currently. Writing him is a blast.
Blorbos:
Last year’s latecomer blorbo would’ve been Rayman. Previous ones would’ve been like between Megaman, Kirby, and Sonic.
In 2022, I had everything listed out, so I’ll do the same for this year too. Completion rate by like, season if I’m probably not confusing a thing. Unordered.

Pokemon Category
Pokemon Origins, Adventures Marathon, Sword, XY Chronicles, Masters, Concierge, Origins, Hisuian Snow, Twilight Wings, Red (Mew Bridge), Emerald Rogue
I'm considering a dissapointment category as well.

Lost Topsters Charts
With this new part of the site, I could probably just recreate the charts. But you already know I won't, right?
I had multiple topsters charts but I'm too lazy to download all the images so I just typed out everything instead. Lol.
It is up to you, the reader, to figure out what I'm doing with every single paragraph.

Definite recency bias here since I mostly went with influential stuff from childhood instead of newer things and the newer things I haven't finished yet.
Thing of the Year (2023)
Thing of the Year (2023 Edition)
I only count things I’ve completed entirely to fit into this thing of the year, which was not something I had last time. I’m also only considering going more in depth for some this time around instead of single sentence summaries of all. Depends on how I feel more towards the end of the year. Nothing past December either because recency bias would mess with the results, but I’ll have a latecomers section just in case something new shows up.
I had it in an image this time around but that's clearly not here.
Counting only complete/ never ending things might’ve worked against me this year.
Cartoons/Anime Category:
I’m having a heavy debate here. It would be Scott pilgrim, but that literally just came out, so it shouldn’t win. In fact, it really should be in the latecomers category.
But simultaneously, I do not want to give it to Ben 10 either because my enjoyment was lost in later seasons out of fatigue. So it’s in this state of “I didn’t finish enough cartoons or anime to have a good one for this category. ” I don’t have a books or manga category because I don’t read books consistently enough to finish them and I speedrun manga without thinking, which I really should do.
Movies/Live Action:
Out of all things, based on old/new, wouldn’t the best thing be the one piece live action for being so different from the rest? From an objective standpoint, I did enjoy it the most, and it inspired me to go back into watching the original one piece, so it won from a marketing standpoint. But also, it had that tumblr campaign with buggy, so I don’t want it to earn anything.
In terms of movies that aren’t live action, the miraculous ladybug movie might win(?) because it managed to capture the craziness of the actual show except for the fact that it actually managed to wrap up the plot instead of making things convoluted like the original show. Also, making it a musical was jarring but funny because of the way I watched it with my sibling and both of us had wildly different reactions. But across the spiderverse was right there, so it should be there, but I kinda want something with rewatchability and the end of the movie gave me a headache, and comparing it to the first has the first be more rewatchable in terms of not needing to worry about a meta plot.
Video Games:
I did not complete much this year for video games at all.
GaiaOnline would win, but that’s just because I didn’t have many exciting things going on outside for video games because of class, which makes it difficult to get established with a new game that expects a lot of things versus the MMOs/Gachas which mostly require me to login and do one task. Though, for the most part, I’ve been ignoring a lot of main stories in games this year to just relax, because getting invested into a video game heavily during such a tumultuous time of academia would not be a good idea! But GaiaOnline… Yeah, this one’s weird to me too. I haven’t even been talking on the forums, which is the main appeal, I’ve just been using it like a dress up simulator. For some reason, buying clothes from the marketplace and learning lakekindred has brought me enjoyment while I multitask on other things. The power of cute clothes won over my heart since I deleted hello sweet days off my phone I suppose.
Pokemon:
Pokemon is in it’s own category as per usual but since I only said I’d do complete games… I had to refer back to the Pokelog I said I’d only update with cleared parties instead of every single game.
If I had to give an award here, it would be to the concept of the Ironmon idea, which isn’t new, but it allowed me to comb through a lot more Pokemon games when I had the motivation to play them. I think Crystal Advance Redux would win this category, but I didn’t finish it, so I’ll put it in the other category (out of three, I have complete items, continuation, and latecomers.)
Results:
Do any of these things deserve to be called thing of the year? Uhhh. Well. No. Considering the last one was angel beats, which had a profound effect on me even though it was cut relatively short. Nothing much came here since I was so busy with other things I didn’t get to fully enjoy a lot of media like others did. Maybe next year.
Extra (Latecomers)
This has gotta be the funniest lineup of random things I did all within a few days of each other.
Unicorn Academy
What if there was a magical unicorn horse academy full of quirky people.
“This is sort of out of my age range but I’ll watch it anyways.” I said. “This is kind of like RWBY,” says the person who watched a lot of RWBY. “It’s like my little pony.” I thought since the horses have magic powers. “I should rewatch winx club.” "The house elf thing kind of sucks", I think in hindsight. I hated the cliffhangers on literally every episode.
The main villain is literally an evil elf woman and the entire time I was like I understand villain enjoyers now I think, I wanted to see more of her hamming up the scenery and she was barely in the show because they turned into a statue. Lame.
Captain Lazerhawk:
How did this thing get greenlit. It’s incredible. Like someone decided to make smash bros but while snorting something after speedrunning through cyberpunk , like, I’m just in awe of how wild the premise is and what they do with most of the characters. They kind of did Jade dirty by killing her so early. More or less I did end up watching it because I was like “was that YouTube recommending a crappost or did rayman really do all that crazy crap” and then I watched and it was like when a person watches a show for one thing and ends up invested in the overall plot anyways, it was good regardless of the fact I don’t know what Ubisoft franchise Lazerhawk is from.
(I feel like heavier Rayman fans have had a weird time with this show though, they keep deciding to put in NFTs and Rayman as a franchise has a pretty environmental message, right?)
Pui Pui Molcar Season 2 (Driving School)
I loved season 1 since it’s literally just guinea pigs/hamsters on wheels. It’s adorable. And very chaotic. This one had more of a focus on driving school since the molcars accidentally destroyed the city but I think I like season 1 more since that one had less focus and just went all over the place.
(It does suck knowing that they got into Fungibles though.)
Thing of the Year (2022)
Summaries of Media Logs: TOTYs
Thing of the Year 2022: Live Action
I knew I had this thing but I could never find it in a reasonable way because I had no tagging system for it on tumblr which was a really stupid idea TBH
TOTY stands for Thing of the Year.
Movies:
Spider-Man (Raimi Trilogy) (It’s spider man, hero to the people, massive meme! I wish Spider man 4 was real, the third had way too much going on. It was like 2 movies in one.)
- Amazing Spider Man Duo. Just gonna post my twitter opinions here. Amazing Spider Man (1 + 2) I liked the first movie. Felt the second was a bit scattered. Too bad the sinister six movie never came out, because the second movie’s ending was just dedicated to that.
- Scream (The Reboot) (Watched in a group scene, the antagonists were redditors and most of what I recall was everyone saying increasingly stupid ideas like Scream (that’s not his name) getting the World (the stand.)
- Monster House ( The house is a very imaginative concept but I still can’t get over the climax being “kid you need to blow up my wife with my tnt collection”)
- Goosebumps (The one with Jack Black and an imaginary daughter and all his books coming to life? The most I recall is the nerdy sidekick beating up a werewolf.)
- Charlie Brown Cartoon Specials (Snoopy.)
- Tick Tick Boom (Watched with a friend. Sort of inspiring as to all of the uh… well. It’s like an autobiography and not of this one playwright guy and I’m struggling to recall it outside of the music lines.)
- Ophelia (This one was based on hamlet, the girl in the lake. Nice dresses. ((I think Daisy Ridley played Ophelia. I don’t know why I recall this… oh!))
- Star Wars (A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back) (What happened was that I was supposed to watch the prequels in the meantime as a sort of time thing between that and the return of the Jedi and I simply could not get through episode 1. I’ll try again next year, but I still enjoyed the first 2 due to all of the stuff they inspired.)
Live Shows:
- The King’s Affection (Watched this one with my parent. Lot of intrigue and drama set up in this storyline of twin has to impersonate the other one without anyone knowing that he’s dead because he was the prince and killed and then she starts falling in love and… oops. That’s a whole synopsis.)
- Reign (Struggling to figure out if it was this year or last year. This probably reignited my interest into watching medieval dramas again— but ones with like magic and political intrigue and what not.)
- Spamton Sweepstakes (I watched this live. I’ve never been more baffled in my life.)
Thing of the Year 2022: Anime/Cartoons
Sonic Prime
(I enjoyed it, minus the multitude of flashbacks to things I had seen the episode beforehand because I was binging it.) I’ll have a more thorough post based on my bullet point notes but not at the moment.
Romantic Killer
(Immensely interesting premise of evil wizard traps girl in romcom which she defeats with the power of friendship, but wow, episode 9-12 is such a rapid psychological mood changer that I sort of go “that was too rapid” towards the antagonist at the end.
Original review: this one was a psychological horror disguised as a rom com with an evil wizard taking this girl’s beloved objects and then episodes 11-12 happen and the show goes back to pretending it was a romcom. as long as you don’t think about those things for too long then its a good romcom.
Naruto, Season 2
rock lee beating gaara’s ass was peak. neji’s argument is basically blown out of the water because the show’s not that deep, guy was just malding (I could be hilariously wrong in the end) . naruto looked at a guy killing someone else and was like “he’s just like me FR”. These guys being like 12 and engaging in bloodsports to become graduates is completely wild. Sakura was basically a nonentity in the second half of the tournament arc but the whole shonen stand there with the eyes cut in and make commentary is also a standard. Then the Akatsuki came and its like, these guys are cool as hell but there’s a few other plots involving the original sanin and Naruto basically learns the Kamehameha. These ninja aren’t sneaky at all.
-The daily life of the immortal king-
I watched this with zero expectations in mind and the best I could initially come up with was “store brand Saiki K” until the tournament arc in which I was invested in the main character experiencing emotions until the show decides to introduce time travel and I sat there wondering if I missed an episode or something. Nope. The show decided to stop the development.
- Angel Beats
(Interesting story, good music, immediately rushed by getting only like 12 episodes. The emotional climax was supposed to be sad, but I was more confused than anything. I probably would’ve appreciated it more as a teenager.) Like, I think the only two I recall are Otonashi (for his focus episode), Kaede (the angel) and everyone else sort of just exist?
Pui Pui Molcar (I’ll be honest I only watch for the hamster noises at this point and seeing the silly little cars.)
Tekken Bloodlines-
Out of the three or four tekken adaptions we’ve gotten this one is “better” when it comes to adapting a game if you don’t question why Leroy has replaced Eddy and also ignore the triangle art style. I wish for a tekken 4 adaption because I feel like if there’s a second season that’ll be it.
The Hollow (The kids were trapped in a video game but then it turns out they weren’t and then the show ends with them technically still trapped. Or something.)
Kingdom Hearts Pilot— I would’ve loved to see this thing be a full cartoon, I love seeing scrapped concepts and lost media pop up!
Not sure if this last one really counts…
Thing of the Year 2022: Video Games
This is where I’d put Pokémon, which I played a lot of!
I did beat Leafgreen, but I think I posted about it already… on twitter.
Pokemon Leaf Green Decided to change things from the standard and did a gift only run, which was pretty enjoyable. Have a newfound appreciation for some Gen 1 Pokemon I had previously ignored.
This still holds up. Lapras has been bumped up to a pokemon I appreciate!
Ikachan!
Cave Story
A few Kirby games here, which I covered in a seperate post. I guess I need to repost that too, huh.
FFXIV, which has definitely shot up to being one of my mainstay video games of all time.
Freedom Planet- Carol Campaign
I haven’t bought 2, but I still enjoyed playing the hell out of 1 even if my brain keeps going like “hey look at all the plot stuff and beta stuff that got cut and never made it in, oooooh”
Stupid brain. It’s a fun game, I shouldn’t complain… Even if I haven’t updated so I can keep a playable Torque.
Fangame section:
A lotta Pokémon here, one lone Kirby game!
My favorite fangames are the ones that are just sort of unhinged. Like, where else would I be without megaman battle network 7, which is a pokemon reskin, or the pokemon orange islands game which accidentally gave me two overpowered sentrets but then the demo was never completed? I’ll post screenshots. I miss my weird green sentrets. A lot of them I still have the bad habit of starting and unfinishing.
Highlights:
Pokewilds
Technically not completed but I have been spending an absurd amount of time on it because it’s something I never knew I wanted until I had it. Open world crafting exploration with pokemon is a dream. Sick as hell!
Pokemon Emerald Rogue
This one was the one I dropped Pokewilds for because I never considered a random generated pokemon game until now that wasn’t just randomizing pokemon and I gotta say, it’s pretty good!
Kind of sucks when your team gets wiped in one go but im pretty sure that’s because I’ve just been playing the EX version.
Pokemon Unbound
Been playing this one as well off and on again, it’s got a pretty decent setup all things involved and I’m slightly invested in this plot which is seeming to be good for a Pokemon game. Most of my poke fangame experience is between “this is batcrap insane, why did it get cancelled”, and “wait it’s over already” and also between “this is a lot of EV/IV stuff” and then some “these fakemon look lame AF” but the last one is rendered moot by how some real pokemon look now.

Thing of the Year 2022: No Longer Current Events
so how about that Twitter exodus?
It’s been such a weird turn around for tumblr considering that they’re the originator of the big ban and now it’s all back. Huh. Even the bots! Booo!
Also I basically split all my interests only for the tinier blogs to just funnel into “things I was too shy to reblog from the main tag of a thing I liked on my main but can now do so on a sideblog no one will actually look at.”
The scrapbook (this blog) got removed (from my main directory) solely because I felt like the main page would be too cluttered. It’s just a lot of scattered thoughts.
I wrote two fics last year! That’s an exponential of 2 more than ever before!
Well. There was the original works, but I sort of shot those. I could talk about them as concepts to be made for… is that a thing? A concept book? Like Nasu’s notes series?
I got my neocities page for the part timers finished! (Minus mobile capabilities.) I’ll probably be using their stories and FF14 as a vehicle to write up plots that might’ve been original stories but I like writing fanfiction because I get to play in someone else’s sandbox.
I’ll probably be posting a bonus Geocities Gallery of stuff I found during the neocities excursion.
Goals:
Exercise more next year, I turned into a major slug
Actually write outside of one shots— or maybe just make everything a one shot and work my way up
Figure out how to hack weeds off animal crossing wild world
Other Category:
Books? Aside from Mirror Visitor and Dracul Daily, it was mostly school related books.
I did start the odyssey and never finished it…
Food?
Red Bean Paste Pastries from the Local Bubble tea shop. That’s all I can think of.
I’ve completely lost appetite regarding breakfast foods due to my budget for the school semester, so now I just don’t eat breakfast anymore.
The worst had to be that smashburger salad with the blue cheese. Yikes.
Drawings?
I could probably scan some drawings to post here, I have a lot of binders full of tiny scribbles but I should probably go with more recent and not completely ruined with a pen stuff…
That’s it.
Thing of the Year 2022: The Continued Category
- I have a bad habit of starting and not finishing things.
The “most likely to be continued”:
- Final Fantasy 4
- Naruto
- Fate Grand Order: I hope to play this at a better pace this time around versus getting burned out in London and deleting. This time I have no excuse since I’ll be able to read what’s happening on my iPad. I finally got it fixed!
- Earthbound
-Pokemon Infinite Dungeon generator, Blue Rescue Team, and Team Worsties
Team Worsties is a sort of challenge run I’m doing where I’m basically going through the motions of an absolutely terrible player who only uses items they get in a dungeon, no money, no friend areas outside of the tutorial ones, and only doing missions that are required.
I’m having a terrible time, it’s great!
The thing I dropped like a rock and should continue category:
- Final Fantasies (1, 3, 4, 6)
- I have a bad habit of starting and not finishing things.
- Mega man games (Funny story, I got to the end of 1 and then stopped at the fire pillar things. Mega Man fan who is bad at playing the games.)
- Live a Live (original fan translation I started playing in celebration of the remake)
- Star Wars (I’m probably the only person I know who’s never watched it all)
- Bleach
Bleach Season 1-4 I watched this up until Netflix took it off and thought it was pretty good up until the Bount Arc started , which made me think “this is a filler arc, isn’t it”, so I’ll probably need to finish this one by reading the manga. (Twitter review)
I never did do that. And I should, considering that the Final Arc is out!
- Donbrothers (I keep saying that every Wednesday I should watch it but also piecing it all through social media is entertaining to me.)
- Persona Games
- Sonic games
- Fire Emblem Games
The things I’m debating continuing category:
-Cookie Run Ovenbreak: feels like the neglected middle child where a bunch of dumb ideas continue to water down the thing I liked. The last thing I seriously enjoyed was the anniversary that introduced the sugar glass cookie.
- Glitter Force: mostly doing out of extreme curiousity to see how badly they butchered smile Precure in the dub
- Maplestory (I don’t think I’ve played GMS in a very long time. Mostly because I just get bored with it easily. Everything early game is handed to you and the plot’s mangled. That’s why I hopped to FF14.)
Things I forgot I watched category:
- The Sound of Magic (based off a web toon? Magic? Musicals? Totally forgot.)
Thing of the Year 2022 Award
And now, the Thing of the Year award goes to…
Angel Beats!
Yeah, despite my gripes with the ending I couldn’t help but feel like this was a good show regardless. There was a good soundtrack and storyline backing the show, but there just wasn’t enough time to develop everyone outside of the Rebel Against God club (even though I barely know any of the cast's names in spite of that)....
Second place would be romantic killer.
Third is a tie up between Naruto and FF14 because those two were the most done things throughout 2022.
